i will check the brake switch again tomorrow but everything else is wired in correctly. fingers crossed it will be something simple that i've overlooked..........usually is!! ........thanks for the replies guys, much appreciated.

Have you confirmed that you have the correct cruise stalk? I can't remember the details but there's a petrol & a diseasal version & they're different. 

2-wire.....diesel, 4-wire.....petrol

Doubtful, but doublecheck fuse #15 under steering wheel

little update......all checked over again, the stalk is the correct 4 wire one and my brake switch is the correct one too, infact identical to the one in the fitting guide. also checked fuse 15 and that was fine too so looks as though the cruise control unit itself could be at fault but i have no way of testing that so can't be sure really?

are you any where near to a member with (a real) tech 2?

That will be able to diagnose further if you cant.

All lights working on your car?  brake, tail & Numberplate?

iirc these are monitored and can stop it working.

not looked into that but all my lights are working normally so i'm at a loss really??
