when did the slim version come out? i have no idea what mine is lol
whats the pro's n con's of the slim? ie is it worth a upgrade

Less likely to overheat and also a lot less likely to RROD.

BTW next version will be RROD proof by removing the red LEDs ::) ::)

Aghhhhh no edit

Yes if you have either HD console the slim versions are less power hungry, and more reliable.

If you have the SD console the newer versions are stripping out Gamecube compatability
All 360s are functionally identical  :-\

And so are Phat and Slim PS3s

Doesn't stop the chip manufacturers using a narrower track design and then redesigns for smaller console, less power usage and more reliability.

Too early to tell if its less prone ;)

One would certainly hope so.

Actually both YLOD and RROD are caused by GPUs breaking away from the motherboards, the run to narrower tracks and less power mean they are running cooler.

RROD is basically a bad overheat and cracking solder. The cooling on the older boxes is not great.

YLOD is a lot less common but does happen. Again the GPU is trying to escape, cooling is better on the PS3 but it still goes pop, not as much however.

BOTH slims though seem to be immune to their respective GPU failure.
This is an XBOX thread, nobody gives a shit about crappy gayStations. XBOX slim is too new to know how prone it is to general failures.  Heat is not the only thing at work here, although that was, along with heatsink design, the primary problem for the fats.

The later 2 generations of fats were much lower power, but still suffered.

It has ended up being a racing sim thread, and stop calling stuff crappy!

Have I slagged off any console? No so stop slagging stuff off.

Both of the slims from the two manufacturers are a full redesign and both are more reliable.

There have been X360 failures from not long after launch, but I have not yet heard of a slim failing in the same way.

Anyone would think this was the first time you'd met TB... ;D ;D

I'm still waiting for one of you gaming experts to tell me which force-feedback steering wheel setup to buy for the 360 :P ;D

;D ;D

Awww dear... Anyway, I don't like the feed back on steering wheels. Seems wrong to me, and then there's the problem of keeping the blasted thing still....

I figured if I had a wheel I'd have to make some kind of stand - then again I've currently got two Lotus Exige seats sitting in the livingroom doing nothing... ;)

But I can't get on with modern driving sims and a joypad, I don't seem to have the fine motor control necessary anymore so I just end up swerving all over the place like a drunk driver after 12 pints.. which somewhat ruins the enjoyment of the thing!

The Logitech G25 would be nice, but that's PS3 only.. the MS wheel is no longer made, and sod paying £400 for a Fanatec, so it's Madkatz (not known for their quality) or a cheaper Logitech wheel for the 360..

Nah, not being a fanboy any more, my eyes are open to the way Fony treat their customers. Its quite amusing to see the fanboys try to stick up for Fony, and the lies that Fony constantly come out with. Still, gayStation fanboys will defend it to the hilt, usually conceding that its a Bluray player as well (even if overpriced, noisy, unreliable, mediocre one) ;D

The telly - circa 2003 - still in dining room to cover hole in carpet  :-[
The mini hifi - circa 2002 - met with sammy, and lost
Hifi - circa late 80s - going strong, mate has it now
alam clock - late 90s - sammy
Cybershot - circa 2004 - sammy (still in warranty, but i didn't want it repaired/replaced)
Several hand-me-down VAIOs - sammy, latterly Percy.
handfuls of cd writers - all binned after about a year - thats their life
DVD player - 2001 ish? - sammy
Portable cd player (discman?) - 2000ish? - sammy

The consumer stuff is universally shite. All of it. Even the most die hard fanboy would have to concede that Tesco Tecknika stuff is better and more reliable ;D

Oh yeah, madcatz... Shan't be going there again, got an xbox controller from them, couldn't work out why I couldn't get bikes to go straight in motogp games. Turns out the mk controller had a delay. Didn't matter how quick your reactions, movements where always 0.5secs behind. Terrable.
Few years ago now though...
