Quiet diff at last
« on: 20 October 2011, 13:24:09 »

Finally located a replacement diff to replace the whining diff in my estate and had it topped up with new oil and fitted yesterday. Located it through find-a-part.com and got it from Carquip UK (VX breaker in Kings Lynn) for £98.70 including packing and delivery charges.
My car had a slight whine when I bought it 4.5 years ago but had got worse in the last year, but I had kinda got used to it. Oh what bliss to have a nice quiet one. :y

Yeah, it has a bit! ;D But to be honest, up until the last 6 months or so it hasn't really been a problem as it only had a slight whine between 50 and 70mph. Another problem was actually sourcing the correct one at a decent price.

I know what you mean. I had this on my Capri 3.0S many many years ago. The whine got higher pitched the faster you went. It lasted a year before the planet wheel finally introduced itself to the crown wheel with an almighty bang.  ;D ;D
It was sheer bliss when I fitted a replacement.

Pete, I wouldn't have expected any other comment from ya ::) ;D
When I come up for a weekend I'll teach you how to drink properly instead of that shandy stuff you normally swill, then you'll be whining! ;D

Why thank you kind sir. :y Sadly, I'm getting the jobs done that needed doing so that I can hopefully sell it in the near future as it's becoming a real struggle to run it as an everyday car. Ironic though isn't it.......I've had it over 4 years with a noisy diff and now it's nice and quiet........well, you get the picture. ::)

Any clearer idea on the replacement yet Bob?  Still thinking C5?
