my 02 2.2 auto taxi has just been written off for a back door(scuff and dent at the bottom) and a dent in the arch just after the door seems a shame to scrap it because theres still 6 months mot and 5 months tax left on it its on a 149000 miles they said its not worth repairing,the woman who drove into me says she didnt see me pulled out of a junction and bash.    ajn

Best bet is to trawl Auo trader for a similar car (or better still, a few of them ) to give you an idea of the value

Is this because the parts are very expensive or because the cars are cheap ?

New parts are very expensive,and the cars arent worth that much usually.Although second hand doors normally go for around £25 each,so could be a cheap fix for theOP if he buys it back from insurance.

well about 6or 7 years ago i got £ 750 for a carlton k reg if i done repaire myself allso i only paid £360 for the car a week before

Values on autotrader will hold no sway at all with insurers. Glasses guide is the bible here ime.
Will depend on spec, age and mileage.

Buying back is fairly painless on the whole. They will give you the car back and the glasses value, less your excess, less the scrap value, if you go that route!

....in my case, 3.2 elite, 03, 75.000miles, top spec car, was valued at £2.990.00p !
less £350 excess, less £380odd scrap value, gives a tidy lump left over after a repair costing less than £200 in new and used parts. That same repair was estimated at £4800.00p by insurers approved repairer. How rediculous.
