omega 2.2 advice
« on: 22 October 2011, 18:03:26 »

hi all i am thinking of buying an omega 2.2 prob around a 52 plate, just after some advice on the mpg, what would i expect i do 15 miles a day stop start and a bit of expressway quite heavy footed. And also is there anything i should look out for when buying, is there any common faults etc etc cheers. Would it be worth buying the 2.5 or 2.6 just looking at the 2.2 because i would think it is better economy.

I drive a 2.2 & get iro 22mpg around town and upto 30mpg on a decent run using lpg so petrol would return slightly better mpg figures. Personally I would opt for a 2.6 given the chance to buy again as even with the extra power and an extra 2 cylinders the mpg is I believe far better :y

you want a manual for lots of town driving, autos suffer in town. 2.6 actually would be more economical, 2.2 is underpowered for weight really.

But I've had a 2.2 manual for last 7 years, its never put a foot wrong. Done hardly any work on it.

Thanks for the replys guys, i am only getting an omega because i love the autos so would probably get a bit less mpg than a manual.

autos really suffer, if you want an auto, go for the V6, suit the Omega better. Especially in auto form.

My last 2.2 averaged around 27mpg over a week, 14 mile commute twice a day and running around town during the day for work, was an auto.  On a steady motorway run over 44 miles, keeping to the speed limits the most I got was 35mpg which I considered good....Hope this helps you decision making....Oh and 4 pot a lot cheaper to fix and maintain than a V6... :y :y

My old 2.2 used to give just under 20mpg on short runs. My 2.5 gives just over 20.The 2.2 seems to struggle with the weight of the car more so than the 2.5. Motorway cruising they are about the same. The 2.2 is easier to work on.

On balance i prefer the 2.5 because it has a bit more power for smoother acceleration.
