If I remember correctly Ericcson announced about 10 years ago that they were pulling out of the Hand Set market so as to concentrate on their established Network Business, Sony come up with a joint venture idea and it seemed to work, reckon Sony should come out with it ok, as long as they remember what they've learnt from Ericcson.

No huge surprise as Sony/Ericsson was run as a total stand alone company with its own P&L and having to source its own financing.

Ericsson effectively contributed on the chipset front (and still will) via the ST/Ericsson outfit (another standalone type joint venture!).

I see it as good news. Sony overpaid, and as far as I can work out, still have to licence a few patents, and Ericsson can concentrate on what they do.

Never owned an Ericsson or Sony Ericsson phone for long enough without smashing it up in a fit of temper to care about how bad good their handsets were...
