Double check it actually is 4 pin, you need to unplug it to check.

Checked today def a 4 pin switch (brake), checked the plug and noticed a red lead or seems to be cut level with the plug top, traced back in the loom but no red lead, so any other thoughts please.

Must confess I did not unplug it, so even though there are 4 wires coming from the base the switch might not be 4 pin, have I understood you correctly? the bit about the red wire is not right it is a blanking pin found it on 2 more cars today.  will wait to see what you say before moving on.

It`s a 4-pin then Bob. Standard 2-pin dosen`t have the cylinder. Can`t rule out the cruise unit but stalk would be a strong probability

I would check the buttons on the stalk usng a multi-meter - I have about 3 or 4 that are all faulty on one button or  another.
