Strange Auto Box behavior.
« on: 11 November 2011, 07:28:31 »

Happens after ascending a steep hill, and stopping at the T junction at the top.

If I turn left, auto box is reluctant to change out of first.

If I turn right, auto box changes normally.

ATF has been changed, Tech II'd with the latest software.

Same thing used to happen on my old 2.2, until ECU was changed under warranty.

Sounds like G/box oil could need a top up.

Odd, seems strange that which way you leave a junction should affect the change up point.

Used to happen on the same junction with my 2.2 :(

So a higher shift point! Like it's in sport mode? Or just won't change?

Is the left turn further up hill?

Very odd.  Mine does this always at the same junction, uphill T but I turn right. The road is congested after the turn so a light foot required - often take up to 3k before changing. Better if in D rather than say 2nd but always at this junction.
G/B filter & oil changed but made no difference at all !
- Assumed my box being less than perfect  :-X

Just won't change.

Left turn has a slight downhill gradient.

Right turn is flat.

3k being the shift point from cold...?

AA. Spookey - this right turn is slightly downhill too !

Chris - yes, although this is when warm/hot.

I assumed it was my light right foot confusing it, but now and again the road is clear and even under a lightly spirited pull away the shift point is high than I'd expect.
I would even belive if I later found there was something electronic interferring with the car at that particular junction.

Has anyone got any info on this on TIS?

Just a thought, as the dealer changed the ECU on my old 2.2, and cured the fault.

got the exact same problem with my 2.2 auto,go up hill, stop on a slight uphill gradient to turn right onto a slight downhill gradient and the box will not change gear when going down hill.had new filter and fluid in the box, didnt make any difference to the box at all..i use the S button now on that particular road, and the gearbox changes gear lovely. :)

It's just a specific set of circumstances causing the box to do something you don't expect, IMHO. I.e. it's detecting a gradient and remaining in a low gear to give you engine braking.

The gearbox changes gear when the ECU tells it to. If it doesn't change, you get a fault code straight away, so I doubt it's a mechanical problem of any kind.
