Hello all,

I was wondering what insurance companies people used for their Omega. I have just had a quote for my new car, CDX estate 2001, and its a higher risk than my  CD estate from 1996. They are not really any different in the scheme of things, but much higher with my insurer. Time to shop around!
Any recomendations?  I have been on con-pare the Merkin.com and looks a bit pricy on there too

where ever you go its a ripoff i am with the one with the red phone and they are crap they say you dont pay extra for paying monthly well i do so its a con. once they con you into joining you will find out after it keeps going up

as ever will depend on your age, no claims discount etc, but i found direct line were cheapest when i insured my 2001 2.6 cdx with them. £315 fully comp.
Then sold the omega, bought a 2002 318 bmw, and they wanted another £157! 
so i swiftly cancelled and after half an hours searching online shielas wheels quoted me £274, fully comp with national breakdown recovery.
I honestly think that every insurance company just plucks a number out of thin air and hopes you go with them!!

if you want cheap insurance you have to work hard for it
about 3 weeks before its up
first go to all the compare sites [ top tip never give you real phone number else you will get lots of sales calls]
you can then try the phonebook [ only use 0800 numbers][be prepared for companys already having your details]
then walk down the road  and check out all the local brokers
then when you have your cheapest prices check the web for cash back sites[top tip check your top 10 qotes on the compare sites]
if you cant save any money this way then phone the companys direct[0800]
you have to but in time and effort
in total i bet i spent 2 days on the phone/web/high road
my insurance back in may was approx 270 pounds[but iam a old git] for a 2.5 diesel but by hard work and research i got it down to £103.78  :yfully comp protected no claims bonus]
also be aware that cash back sites take time to pay you back the money

I'm with Hastings as they were cheapest with reasonable excesses. Paid £238 fully comp.

I used Quotezone as the search engine aggregator (there are other low profile ones) rather than the high profile heavily advertised ones (the adverts have to be paid for by somebody, guess who?). This is from the insurance industry experience I've had.

My advice is to check prices and excesses across multiple aggregators as they do vary and then check the Insurance companies website as you may get an even better deal.

Mine was through a branded Hastings name and website as the main aggregators insist that no prices are cheaper on the particular brand and website that they display on their website.

talking about rip offs i phoned my insurance company to swap insurance from a 1999 (t)cdx 2.5 mfl to a 2000 (x) cdx 2.5 f/l the robbing b@st@rds told me with the admin charge it would be an extra £264.76    when i asked why the huge increase they replied with "because the computer says so" couldnt even explain it themselves 
needless to say i gave them a right mouthfull over the phone as i have been with them for some time and cancelled my insurance there and then. after my rant they said they could reduce it by £100, but being in such a rage and not seeing why the extra cost was being incurred told them to shove it    went round all the sites, telephones etc as previous poster and eventually got a traders insurance for less than i was paying for the original cdx, i now pay £345.00 which covers me for up to 5 cars fully comp including sports cars and light trucks 
so it really pays to do the few days of trawling web sites and going round the different brokers and companies

I'm still paying less with the Omega than the quote I got on a 04 plate 1.4 Corsa. Just under £2000. Other companies wanted upwards of £7k for it basically saying they thought I would write the car off 6 times a year. At least Dick Turpin wore a mask.

I'm with Pru (Churchill) paying £305 this year. This includes no claim bonus protection, legal protection and a hire car for a fortnight whether my fault or not, been with them for some time now.
   I look at the web then tell the Pru this is what so & so are quoting it usually gets a reduction.

God, I'm glad I'm an old fart

In the early nineties (quick calculation - before you were born ), I had a quote for £3k (cheapest) .  Bearing in mind I bought my first 3 bed semi with garage that same year for £55k, that shows what £3k was worth then .  Sold car before insurance ran out.

I (and many of my friends) didn't trouble ourselves with insurance back then. If we got busted, we got busted .......simple as that. Oh to be a breakless and irresponsible teenager again.....


I should add, that was more than thirty years ago now. Plod was more plodding way back then.....
