BROKEN DOWN - CODE SEEMS TO BE 0335
« on: 12 November 2011, 17:11:04 »

Was just going to petrol station, stopped at lights, didn't even realise it had stopped at first. Thought it was fuel. Put some in but only a bit. Just turning over.

Is that code the crank sensor?

God its hard to move these buggers with no power.

0335 is the ubiquitous Crankshaft Sensor ... well known for suddenly failing. It is "possible" .. but not probable.... that leave it to cool for an hour and it might !!! just start.

If not its a matter of getting a new one fitted .. VX only . no pattern parts on this . and follow the routing as per the guide.

It is not a difficult job .. I did one in a supermarket car park for a guy last year, only tools needed are a torx bit, some snips, cable ties and very flexible fingers .. access to the plug at the back/top of the engine being the hardest part.

Thanks for that, waiting recovery now. Don't really have any tools so will have to get someone to do it. Wouldn't mind its booked in with elite Pete on Thursday for brakes and service. Now this. Bank balance dwindling.

Can it be done in a drive, or does it need lifting quite high?

Likewise, turn the steering wheel to get the wheel out of the way .. underneath the car its a simple torx head screw beside the oil filter.. without being rude .. if you are a 20 stone whale you might have a problem .. but the average person can easily get in far enough to reach ....  :)

I think I remember reading that there are two shapes of connector (rounded and square), but I'm afraid I don't know which is which.. or which cars have which :(

This is certainly true for the pre-facelift cars.

I don't know if the plugs are different for the different sensors on face-lift cars :-\
