Actually, thinking about it, when the car is open loop, would it use the Long Term Trims?

You dont - they are an internal calculation made by the ecu depending on other sensor readings...

Fixing the air leaks would be the first thing to start with ;)

One way of finding air leaks is to spray LIGHTLY with carb cleaner whilst the engine is running, spray lightly along vac pipes, plenum base, generally all around the engine..... but in a controlled manner .. don't just swamp the compartment.....  when the engine note changes it means some vac cleaner has been sucked in and burned as unmetered fuel, hence the change in engine note.

Closer examination of that area will eventually pinpoint the leak. Fix the leak, wipe the engine down with papertowel .. Voila .. fixed problem and a nice clean engine

Still think crank sensor as the pulses drive the fuel pump.

Also one of the few thigs which will stop it even trying to start.

Check for spark & fuel when cranking the engine. No fuel and spark invariably equals failed crank sensor
