I want to buy SWMBO a new head unit for her Zafira, currently the bog standard single CD jobbie.
The new one must have an aux input or USB for any old MP3 player but I do want to keep the display function on the MID.
I did think about a single DIN with a motorised screen for track selection but decided that would be too distracting.
Thinking of retrofitting steering wheel controls as well so that has to be taken into account.
Does anyone have any experience/thoughts/suggestions.

I really want her to get rid of all the bloody CD's in the glove box!

Budget is not limited, well, it is really......no top end stuff but fairly decent if you guys and gals can help please.
Need some fairly quick input as I'm heading back to UK on the 24th for 6 days and would prefer to buy there if possible.
Lot of unknowns with Spanish units, or the well known names are horrendously expensive.... been checking like for like with ebay etc and the units over here for known named brands are sometimes up to 4 times as expensive!

What model of stereo is coming out, as that will give an indication of connectivity

Guessing Zafira-A with CDR500 currently...

Yeah, sorry, it's a Zafira A, 1994 MY with the CDR500, no steering wheel controls (yet).

There are Chinese HU 1 DIN, with motorized touch screen, USB, SD & a lot of other connections, also Navigation, at a price of around 400-450 pounds (would have to buy from eastern Europe or so, in UK as seen on internet they are charging 900 quids or more!). But no steering wheel controls for an Astra as old as yours.

I do want to keep the display function on the MID.

I woudl treat this as the most important question to ask regarding your new head unit since its a facility that not many stereos will have an economic solution for. Some will require an external interface to do this (~£100+)

Personally, I would look at the Kenwood range, mid to upper level models, and look for a feature called "OEM DISPLAY OUT" as you can then buy an interface for around £50 to allow steering controls and MID operation.

Avoid the Chinese and unbranded tat floating about.
