Mine took ages to check the mag after I had loaded it for the first time after buying the car. I took it back out and put a lens cleaning disk in and let it do its job. After it had finished, about 10 secs, I put the first disk back in and it worked ok after that.
Have you tried to clean the laser lens? if not, give it a go.....

Different fault

I cannot recommend laser cleaning with those silly cleaning disks until we know, beyond any doubt, that its the laser thats shafted. 99.9% of the time, those stupid disks will do far more damage than good. And I, personally, do not want to suggest something that will cause damage to someone else's property

Unless the mag shows signs of damage, I suspect its the CDC3 mech thats faulty. Sorry.
