CDR 500 Error
« on: 27 November 2011, 15:28:48 »

Hi all,

Just taken delivery of a 2nd hand CDR 500. Fitted it and the radio works fine, but it doesn't like any cd's  :(

It comes up "TR __ " then CD error :-\

Any ideas please?

TIA :y

Not compatable with CDR/RW discs, and if these have been used then has probably knackered the laser.

They can certainly be fixed, and more than happy to take a look if you want to send it over for a proper investigation

Cheers for the offer Dave. I've spoken to the OOFer I got it from and he believed it still worked as he had tested it. I've searched online for possible causes and one is dust/dirty laser. So will try a cd cleaner first and see if that helps.
The seller did say he would sort something out if it did not work, so not worried too much!

I'll bear your offer in mind though, cheers :y

I've spoken to the OOFer I got it from ...

That'll be me then!

As said, the stereo was in a Vectra I acquired for spares for my own personal car in the summer, I tested it at the time by fitting it in my car and it worked fine during a daytrip to Wales. I have a Pioneer Mp3 player which suits my needs better than a stereo that only plays original CD's so the CDR500 was only used for that one day then spent the next few months sitting on the side in my kitchen.

I sold my Vectra around a month ago and did briefly stick the CDR500 back in to make the car more appealing but the person who purchased the vehicle was going to fit their own stereo anyway so I whipped it back out again, it's then sat on my kitchen side again until purchased by you today.

I'm sorry it's not working now and to be honest I would have preferred to fit it for you myself today as offered, just so we both had the piece of mind that it was o.k., but I didn't want to insist as you seemed to have your hands full with all the family in tow...

So will try a cd cleaner first and see if that helps.
Hopefully it'll just be a simple fix, speaking of which if your on-about those discs with a brush superglued to them I don't know but I reckon they would be a good way to scratch the lens permanently.

Hi mate, as I've posted I'm not aggrieved at all, its sods law, lol. You did in fact offer to fit & I was grateful, but as you noticed I had the family in tow. SWMBO had to be home as she had a prior appt! We'll get it sorted 1 way or the other! :)

Don`t bother Dave, better off stripping down to laser, cotton bud dampened with spirit, wipe the "eye" then try it

Don`t ever use any form of chemical on the laser lens, simply breath on them to create a light mist and then carefully wipe using a lint free bud

I would suggest that if you are not familiar with stripping it down to leave well alone. Although not exactly difficult, irrepairable damage can be easily inflicted
