Mrs TB has one, she loves it. I don't really do story books, so less useful to me.

The cheaper ones dont have keyboards, meaning typing anything in (wifi keys, searching for books etc) is a royal PITA

Just got one for my 50th-I think the better half has this (vain ;D) hope that it would reduce the number of books in the house! TBH, when I'd spoken to people about them before I did have reservations in as much that I'm a bit of a ludite and I felt I would miss the physical aspects of reading a book and had concerns that the screen wouldnt be easy to read in certain lights. Well, I have to say that many of my reservations have been blown away. Ive got the dearer WIFI/3G version and its dead easy to use (probably too easy to search and download more books via the whispernet/oneclick system than is good for my bank account  ;D) and is a really good bit of kit with none of the problems Ive heard about with other e-books like the sony one. The battery life is excellent although that is shortened if you utilize the reading light option but that too is a well designed thing and it wont disturb your other half as putting on the bedside lamp would should you want to read a bit later in bed!TBH, for a book I'd really want to have and keep Id buy a book proper as -good as the kindle is-its a bit like the difference in owning a vinyl album as opposed to a CD: the latter seems a bit sort of "disposable". Only suggestion I would make is that you had a good definition colour front and back cover on the screen but guess thats a minor gripe. Dont know that Id necessarily take one abroad as Id rather lose a couple of books at £5 each than my kindle at a lot more but thats me just being stupid ::)All in all I'd really recommend it :y

Hmmm...

It all depends on what books you want to read. Only one of my Xmas "get" list is available.
Airey Neave - Nuremberg = not available. Not even P Routledge's biog published 2002
Conot - Justice at Nuremberg = n/a
Eric Shipton - That Untravelled world = n/a
Chandler et al - Portable Platonov = n/a
D Tutu - Future/forgiveness = n/a
Dershowitz - best defence = £11.92   or <£5 on Abe

It would be disappointing to be drawn in by a shiny shiny toy only to find it could not yet deliver the content. Potential purchasers should check that the books they want are available now.

Kevin .. due to site rules I cannot give too much information ... but all the books you list are available in electronic format....  somewhere ... :)

Non-kindle books can be converted to work on a kindle very simply.

:)

I wouldn't be without mine now, or the library of 9,000 books I still have yet to read ..... :)

The great thing with the Kindle is the screen - PCs, phones, tablets etc just cannot match it in sunlight or dull conditions. It truely is like a printed page.

Mrs TB was quite happy reading hers by the pool in Cyprus (in a waterproof case, as I kept bombing her ::))

Come on - you can do better than that! It's a Sony product! ::)

I have seen them used and they seem to be pretty good and the Kindle being the one with the biggest library selection and set of other functions.
Tesco have them on sale for under 90 notes.
Probably getting one for xmas myself if what I overheard is right:y
