2.2 any good ?
« on: 30 November 2011, 17:38:24 »

Hi all... Now i apologise at the start cos this is one of those how long is a bit of string questions but .....
I have been offered (over the phone so far) a Y plate 2.2 petrol silver with mot til Aug 12 and tax til Apr 12.
Guy wants £400 > £500 for it , sorry dont know spec yet or mileage(other than he says" its not been to the moon and back")
Question is ... is it roughly worth it?     and
I have at present a 2.5cd V6 W reg mileage about 75k , i use it to tow the pikey van and i`m very pleased with the performance etc .... will the 2.2 give me almost as much oomf ?

I know its all maybes and a bit vague but any comments would be appreciated

Will give you slightly better enconomy, but you'll notice the difference towing a 'van.

.... I'd consider it a downgrade from what you have engine wise. What spec is 2.2? if elite, or cdx then maybe worth it over all, if thats your bag.

I should have asked him the spec , waiting on a text.
I dont think i`d consider it if it wasn`t an elite.
I love my bus but she is getting a bit "untidy" bodywork wise mainly thru herself parking in car parks !!
And both the bumpers need something done to them , the frontis stone chipped and they  both seem to have the lacquer peeling off!
But then if i`m gonna lose alot of pulling power for the van then i`d only be straining the engine , and i know at the moment i tow very comfortably.

Elite only came with a proper engine, or diesels, throughout its production run. Never a 2.0 or 2.2 petrol one.

Hi ya,

Am I right in think that a 2001 (Y) just creeps in to the higher tax bracket where it's based on emissions?

Correct me if I'm wrong  :)

Cars registered on or after 1 March 2001 (based on fuel type and CO2 emissions) do fall into the higher tax bracket :y

if it's just the bodywork that's concerning you with your existing car, I'd be tempted to get quotes for that first  :y

nothing wrong with the 2.2...i have has 2 now...no not as fast as a 3.2 and probably not the best for towing due to the smaller engine...but all the same an under rated car imo :y
