cam somebody remind me- swapping AR25's to 35's...
« on: 01 December 2011, 08:24:46 »

Hello,
can somebody remind me please, do you just swap over the gearbox ecus if you go from the AR25 to 35?
i'd do a manual conversion but cba with the time of year - got limp mode yet again with TC light on and afaik the 1700 code again this morning, i've bought some fluid to stick in to check the level and its booked in saturday to have the codes read properly.

one thing i have noticed is that when it goes into limp mode, the rev counter bobbles about at around 1000rpm and there's basically no drive - if you turn it off and start up it goes into snow mode- loads of slip and it wont go in 4th at all

thanks

What car?

Diesels need the bell housing swapping I think.

Petrols are identical so straight swap.

DBW/non-DBW will have no affect on gearbox.

All petrol engines will just be a straight swap  :y

I've not been under a 2.6, but with the 3.2's you could get away with removing gearbox without dropping cats.

If you do have to remove them, might be worth getting exhaust downpipe gaskets, just in case. When cats where removed on mine to move lambas & drill exhaust studs they were quite badly corroded.

They are not cheap though for what they are  :(

just to cofirm you will have to remove cats to drop box on a 2.6 imo. had to do it when i did mine  :y.
the gaskets for cats where about £7 each from my local stealers :(

Believe you need to remove cats on any V6 to drop autobox - certainly had to do it on mine (2.5V6)

That's why Serek is asking Tunnie if he's physically done it hinself on a 3.2 - I don't believe he has!!  Serek has a lot of practical experience of working on these V6s including g/box removals / conversions  :y

lol.. i've never taken a gearbox off a V6 while the engines in the car but from looking, i dont see it being possible to remove the gearbox without removing the downpipes first as they go either side of the gearbox in the transmission tunnel pretty much

..i've fitted a gearbox with the engine out and i've done it on a 2.0 but even then i removed the downpipe lol!
