Give us a clue. What engine? Even 4 pots should take 5L. You removed sump plug?

I checked oil today and it was completely empty, no issues before.
I expected to put the full 5:75 litres in but only got about 2 in there
Can't find any leaks so it's all a bit strange.

The bottom of the dip stick doesn't mean there's no oil in the engine! I'm guessing you still had 3 litres+ still in the suimp.

If it had really run out you would have lost oil pressure and the engine would be in a very poor state of repair by now.

I would look into why the low oil warning didn't happen, though.

You want the oil level sensor which is in the sump. From the bottom of the dip stick to top is 1L

So you did not drain sump & refilling? Quite possible you have considerably overfilled!!!

Possible stem seals, and you should have had an oil check pop up on the dash.

Top of the engine, passenger side.

re your original question. You need to start again, I don't think anyone has a clue whether you put a couple of litres into your engine after an oil change or just routine. As Kevin says, if it was empty, then a couple of litres would've been too late & your engine would be seized. When did you last check the level & how many miles have you driven since? You might just have a severe leak.  :-\ :-\ :-\

hi,
i checked the oil today and it was bone dry,put in 1 and half litres of oil and is now showing full on dipstick.
Never had any probs with oil before or needed to top up.checked oil about 3-4 weeks ago and it was fine.
no puddles on drive , just cant understand what happened here as had the car 6 yrs and never had to put oil in.
if the filter is top passenger side i will check tomorrow.
cheers

marcus.

ahhhh ok  :y
then to suddenly lose 1 1/2 to 2 litres of oil is serious , did you check filter? also surely on a mv6 you should get  low oil warning  :-\ :-\
