Anyone on the Lincoln area
« on: 02 December 2011, 12:06:49 »

I was just wondering (well, I know a few members are in the area) if there is anyone in or around Lincoln that would be able and willing to help me / show me how to do a cambelt kit + water pump change on my Astra SRi (T Reg, X20XEV engine)?

I don't know when it was last done and have only had the car a few weeks, so looking at doing an overall service and changing these to cover the bases.

Won't be until after xmas / new year, I would obviously supply all parts etc and some beer tokens or suitable other compensation for your time.  I have been told its pretty easy on these but I have never done a cambelt change of any kind before so would like to do it with someone who knows what they are doing the first time I do it.

cheers all.

Hi,

I've done a couple of V6 cambelt changes (with lots of advice from on here), but wouldn't trust myself to do one on someone elses car TBH - especially a "new" engine to me.

A pal of mine in Lincoln runs his own garage and would do this for a very reasonable price, he knows Vx engines well. I'll PM you his number if you are interested.

Thanks - Rob

......

I'm assuming that this engine is similar to the twin cam of the  52 plate 1600 Astra SWMBO used to have. Get a Haynes manual if you haven't already done so & have a read through, it really couldn't be any simpler to do. The cam lock tool was about £5-  :y :y :y

I'm probably too far, in Gloucester, but you'd be welcome to pop it over on one of my days off :y

Same as Rob here, not confident enough to do my own even on a 4 pot car...could do a v6 Omega though...

And I know the same guy in Lincoln and as Rob says he is highly recommended for Vaux cars :)

Thanks for the replies, much appreciated.  Sorry for the slow reply from me, I have been having internet issues all weekend at home, back at work now so can catch up a bit.

Would be interested in the details for the guy in Lincoln if you could PM me.  I work in North Hykeham (near LA Fitness) so can get the car to people in Lincoln easy enough.  Not looking at doing it until the new year, no money atm with Christmas and everything else, just want to get it done as I don't know it's history.

I have a Haynes manual for it and it reads as a relatively simple job.  I could probably do it if I put my mind to it but it is one of those jobs that you hear horror stories about haha.  Also, if I have a problem the first time I do it (never done any cambelt jobs before) then I don't have anyone to run to at a weekend and would need the car for work on the Monday.
