Went to see big white chief in my office yesterday.......hes not the owner but runs the office........

I had a whinge about a scrub i had (ie no show) in Marlborough last Monday evening (i had to run about 10 miles to get there).......asked him to check it for me.......ie if genuine ok i can live with it.....if not (ie an office error) then i would like paying for it.

All our jobs get sent to a data unit in our cars......it shows pick up time (or time cust phoned) pick up place, name of customer, and usually destination

Its like big brother in our office......everything gets recorded.....all phone calls in/out get recorded......all keystrokes on their pc's by receptionists get recorded........same for the drivers......every button they press on their data units gets recorded......so basicaly anything anyone does gets recorded........tho i doubt never checked unless a dispute.....

Never seen the severs that run this.......but they must have huge disk space to record everything that goes on.......

Anyway.......big chief phoned me 15mins later....and told me he listened to the conversations that went on for my job and it was indeed office error for the pick up point.......so would credit me £15 to my account for the error  :y

Dont think he liked doing that.........as i was told today he went mental at the receptionists  ;D

Just thought id mention this.......as i know there are other taxi drivers on this forum...... :y

Good result :y :y....you can put it towards your tax disc.....by the way do you pay the full rate as a taxi driver, or do you get a discount as its your work....rather disgusting if not.

Dont be silly!!  ;D The Government giving me discount!!  ;D
I pay the same as everyone else.
I think it was nearly £120 for 6 months last time  >:(

Your Taxis must be expensive with those overheads, Your rent must be massive.
Not a Taxi Driver.  ;D
Good result on your money though. :D :D

Were actually very cheap......£4 for 1.4 miles....

Dont mind saying i pay my office £105/week radio rent
i was paying that in the early 90s for a single track ( 7 days +fri/sat night) the last i heard the radio rent around here is something like £200 unless some one knows different

Is that using your own car?  :-/

If not.....add another £160 min depending what car you have....
yes  owner driver. Ive no idea what the cost of a firms car would be

because it starts to get complicated then .

Well all I can say is prices must be higher in your area and must be busy all day long then........... :-/

its been a long time since i was in the game .As for being busy Ive seen cabs plotting up at 8. 30 on a weekend night , unheard of when i was driving . Ill have to get a price chart of someone  to see how things have changed. There must be something amiss to be waiting to be given a job at 8.30.  I cant remember if it was my Dad or me who used to get cheaper road tax .I definitely remember it being 12 months for the price of 6 months tax, its going to annoy me all day now , until i remember  :y

It was busier when i first started being a cabbie......too many at the same game now.....weekend nights waiting time would creep upto at least an hour for a car, very rare for that to happen now, 10-15mins wait max.......also depends where you saw the cars waiting for a job.......as you know....everyone comes into town w/e eves, so if you saw cars waitng for work town centre.....im not suprised......you have to be prepared to run back out to the outskirts......some drivers wont run back out.......so they just sit waiting in town for a job.....ive only just come in tonight and had a blinding day/eve.......but every time i dropped town area, i went back out again  :y

Quite often messages (on a fri/sat eve) from the office get sent to the data units........saying things like '50 jobs on the board and ive got 25 cars sat town centre.......run for the work!!'

Dunno why drivers wont run for the work......ok i know fuel costs etc...but on a fri/sat eve......our fares go up....min fare is £5  :y

i used to have a saying that if my wheels were turning i was earning.
i didn't mind chasing work ,but some drivers couldn't be bothered .Re the plotting It started to get busy at 7.30 non stop till 10.45 then from 11.30 till 2am. Then we'd have the town work Bolton/Manchester that would keep us going until 4 - 4.30.

we get the same sort of appauling service from our office, they do not listen to the customer while on the phone and do not pass important messages on- for instance i had to go 35 miles to a job, the description stated phone 10 mins b4  arrival so i got to the house which would give me 10 mins to sort the back of my van out b4 cust turning up.
when i spoke to the customer she said the office op was told bell 45 mins b4, so as i had other customers waiting i could not hang around. these people in the office do not want to take any responsibility for any job and lie,lie their way out of any situation- disgusting.

Up here we charge about £2 for the 1st mile and about £1 a mile after that.  My radio rental is £85 a week with a 5% surcharge for a double shifted car.

In Milton Keynes there is a cartel of 2 cab firms, who seemed to have the councilliors on the payroll as well, meaning there are not enough cabs.

Last company that started up just outside MK's control was torched within a few days.

They have a scam in the centre at night where you have to pay £1 (non refundable) to join a long queue waiting for cabs - similar to cheese counter in supermarkets, though you'll still wait an hour or more. Tossers.

Last time I tried to get a cab from Bicester train station home (admittedly about 1am), I was told about a 2hr wait (and it was below freezing). Not sure what was colder, the air, or Mrs TheBoy's shoulder when she had to come out and get me ;D
