Like it or not, Facebook is a very useful Social Network. I don't broadcast my every movement but it is very useful for me to keep in touch with family, friends and acquaintances all over the world

As with most things, Facebook is whatever you want it to be - I find it a useful tool to keep in occasional touch with old mates who now live all over the world. The stupid games hold no  interest for me and I hardly ever use it to post on.
   Some people do use it to describe their lives in minute detail, but if you don't want to see all that crap, you don't have to - just delete them. It's not that different to being on this forum IMO

Id say this was more of a gay site if you go by the percentage of male and female users.  and the management on Facebook don't go around insulting things they don't dislike either.

I find facebook usefull for seeing pics of nieces and nephews around the world when they are out and about at their hobbies/activities where a 'phone call does not give the same effect.

That said, my son has applied for a new job that is security sensitive.  Before submitting his paperwork I counselled him to trawl his facebook a/c to delete anything that could be remotely embarrasing or could be used as ammunition/evidence if someone took a dislike to him in his new employ.

He is glad he did......

I resisted facebook for a long time, before succumbing...  and have found it a great platform for keeping in touch with people I otherwise would have lost contact with    I also have reconnected with many old friends, and rekindled some old friendships in 'the real world' from facebook!!   

However, I'm constantly amazed at what people post up in their own name and for all to see.....

I suspect the management of BookFace don't get actively involved with their members, and wouldn't be involved at all if it wasn't for the financial rewards, would have nought to do with it

One of my work colleagues was trying to convince me of the merits of idiotter (after he failed to invite me as a gay dating friend on ArseBook), and why I should 'follow' some London radio station and the Met Police - knowing I live in Brackley, and don't give a shit about what goes on in London (in the loose sense).

Maybe I'm just old, but I do fail to see the allure of TitArse and idiotter.  I prefer to meet friends face to face on a Friday night , or those I can't, use old fashioned technology - yes, phones can be used to make calls

Plus, I have the cube root of hee haw interest in joining any zoonga, firmville, vajazzled or other such chewing gum for the brain games that Facebook seems to be overflowing with....

I think Nickbat summed it up pretty well. Folk post drivel on facebook &/or on here but sit in judgement over the other? I don't watch what i consider to be the drivel many of you watch on telly, my telly is'nt even switched on as we speak. How many of you can honestly say that? F/b is no less safe information wise than any other site. If you're that worried don't pay for your weekly shop on ANY plastic as everything you buy goes straight to the statisticions & is forever logged. I play some of the silly games but have never spent a brass farthing on any of them but it's a free light hearted giggle when you & a few friends are beating eachother on scores, no harm in that surely?

   As said some have far flung loved ones they can keep in touch with free & many of us have rekindled old school mates after moving away & are still in touch today.

   Jaime.......yes it might be a bit cheesy & gay but it is'nt any kind of a dating site however you look at it!

You do have to be careful, though. A phone call between 2 males that's longer than "Pub? Yep, Rose and crown. 8 o'clock." could be construed to fall into the "gay dating" category.
(With a possible exception if trying to find an Omega problem.)
