hi any one know what K rating the original dip beam bulbs are as i am looking to change my main beam with an up grade kit but would like to match them. also what is the difference between say 5000K and 8000k does 8000K mean brighter? :-\

No, it's not brighter, 8000K will give you blue color:

Original bulb should be somewhere between 5000K and 6000K. I prefer 6000K.

OE dipped HID bulb is 4500K. What upgrade kit were you thinking about for the main beams ???

was thinking of a hid conversion kit with 6000k to replace the H1's in there at the moment but would match the dip beam bulbs also.

You can't have HID mainbeam (not quite true, but to all intents and purposes for this discussion, near enough).

GM HIDs are 4.5k

You do get HID headlights, ie 'bi-xenon' but it's not a separate 'bulb', a shutter moves to give you main or dip. HID are too slow to use as a 'flash'

Indeed, shutters is the only way, not practical to retro fit AFAIK.

I know on one of the sports cars my bro was designing, the front had to be slightly restyled to give extra room for ballast packs and vents due to heat.

just found this from the department of transport Fact sheet: Aftermarket HID headlamps

December 2006

In the Department's view it is not legal to sell or use after market HID lighting kits, for converting conventional Halogen headlamps to HID Xenon
 there was a lot more info on this.

so guess thats it will stick with the standards and up grade to get a cleaner ice look  :'(

is there any thing similar if i have H1's , not sure at moment what is in my motor will whip one out tomorow and check, as i have never had to change one. need to sort this as i now need to drive dark mountain roads regularly

What headlights do you have - ribbed lenses, clear halogen, or hids?
