Inside Job: Storyville
« on: 07 December 2011, 22:43:15 »

Have just sat and watched this about the 2008 crash and came to one conclusion .....

Corrupt .... Corrupt .... Corrupt .... and most of all Corrupt ....

If I where inclined to any conspiracy theory I would wonder if they where all in it together

Everyone involved in government policy, taxation and regulation since the eighties made a fortune while people lost homes, jobs and money.

and it would appear to be still going on  >:(

I feel like putting up a tent of my own (or sleep in the back of my mig  :D)

Did you see ?
What do you think ?

I watched it too .
It left me with a feeling of deep sadness that these greedy unscrupulous parasites went unpunished with no apparant blemish on their character and had the audacity to deny any wrongdoing or responsibility for the armagedon they were utterly responsible for.
The intimate marriage between State , Financial Institutions and the Financial Education system was also nausiating and beyond forgiveness.
It was summed up by the phrase " The Government is Wall Street "
I feel real bitterness towards those who caused the global situation we are in today.
Tonight this programme , last evening I watched a programme on the rise and fall of the Royal Bank of Scotland and was seething with anger at the total ineptitude and blatent deception of that loathsome megalomaniac  (Sir ) Fred Goodwin.
I despair .........

My favorite subject when it's election time  :y
Compulsary voting for all with a space for a "none of the above" vote.
Would change the face of electioneering forever

Trouble is, voting for 'none of the above' would potentially leave us in anarchy, imagine no one responsible in charge, perhaps better to have something in place than nothing. No change at the top would only keep the people in charge at a local level in place, these people would them become entrenched by the power given to them as a result of no elected representatives  to guide/govern them. Voting for nothing is as bad as not voting at all imho :-\

Belgium was without an elected government for a while and doesn't seem to have fared any better than the rest of europe thus far...

Not voting should perhaps be an offence of treason. Having said that, people who don't vote cannot criticise/complain about the powers that be because they played no part in the selection process. However the majority party/coallition need to remeber that they represent the people who didn't vote for them just as much as those who did, something that Labour overlooked.

Chin up, 'twill soon be Christmas :y

Yes, I agree with much of what Al has said, not to have any form of elected administration in place would lead to utter chaos.

I will also say that should people feel strongly enough about it, they should become part of the process to ensure that their voice his heard when it comes time to choose the next governing party. For that to happen, and happen effectively, people must vote; not to do so makes a mockery of having this hard won right available to us and devalues the advantages of living in a parliamentary democracy (sadly, in this country’s case, that statement is loosely made).

Change needs to happen from the bottom up; the entire system of choosing candidates, how many are put forward for the national parliament, the constituency boundaries and new but effective regulation of the entire system (including those who are ultimately elected) all need to happen if we are not to fall victim to an ‘every man for himself' attitude and are, as a result, made to suffer yet more from the incompetent decisions made by elected representatives who, like many of the present incumbents , are removed from the practical realities of living a life in modern day Britain.

In short – we need leaders, we need imaginative people who are not afraid of making decisions that will be in the interests of this country, we need a system to care for our people not manipulate them but, above all, we need each and every person in this country to take an interest in this vital process and to question those who represent us (or seek to) and to continue to do so.

Discarding the mock concern that many members of the present mongrel government shows when trying to convey their thoughts on the current situation in the country – invariably falling to the phrase of ‘we’re all in this together’ when they’re breaking the news that they will require us to part with even more money – I would suggest that we really are, all of us, in this together: People need to become more responsible, we need to take that interest, we need to question and expect answers but, above all, we need to get off our arses and vote.
