2.5 TD doesn't want to know.
« on: 10 December 2011, 09:55:43 »

Hi
Can anyone help me with some engine bay pictures of a pre-face lift diesel engine bay/ engine. The car itself has now got
starting problems. It may either be lack of fuel or broken/split vacuum pipes. So hopefully pics may help.

thanks

best thing to do is get a heavy duty battery, diesels use a lot of power in the winter months for starting, also check leak off pipes, common problem as this will cause air leaks.

If it is difficult to start when cold  possible engine compressions

compressions need to be tight for a good cold start

possible heater plugs

I can send you pics of a 2.5 TD in a facelift, same layout. Have you replaced the Diesel Leak Off pipes?

Good Battery essential this weather, check GP voltage past the relay, measure each GP individually to ground (1 or 2 ohms each), crank off one of the injector pipes, is it spitting diesel?

Worst case get some Cold Start in to the Air Intake, will sound like a bag of spanners going around in a washing machine but should start.

Used to happen mine a bit and what happened was the blank cap on the back injector was perished and letting out a mist(spray) of diesel. I couldnt actually see the diesel coming out with the covers on so I took the little cap off to check

at the front of the engine on the right hand side there is a silver cylinder with 2 pipe connections comming out. 1 seems to be fine, the other has nothing connected. any ideas as to why or is this a breather

Sounds like it's the EGR valve - some have a pipe attached, which is connected to the inlet manifold.

Whereabouts are you?
