I was going to give up smoking as it was costing me £200 a week.

But I managed to get it down to £20 by just throwing away my petrol lighter.

ok alot of people hear are missing my point, the eu and america just decided to introduce these fire safe cigarettes without public knowledge or any written testing results to hopefully reduce the number of cigarette related fires, when i say they are making people sick i know there are lethal chemicals in all cigarette but for people to fall ill after only smoking a few of these cigarettes points to something not right.
i have found myself that i cant smoke my usual brand as it now dries my throat out, sets me off coughing and the main reason is that they taste crap. i think if this keeps on the tobacco companies are going to have another huge lawsuit put up against them
methinks though taken that with not enjoying thse "new" cigarettes maybe it is time to chuck it in and give up

When I get into the lift at work to get to the 12th floor, I always seem to be accosted by smokers who essential stink and make me feel like vomiting. In essence the next 5 mins in the lift, stopping at every floor on the way up, makes me feel ill. Theres no use getting out and getting another lift because they seem to be everywhere. Now who let these revolting smokers into the lift? Can they not take the stairs? Of course not because that would cause them to cough and splutter and probably die going up 2 flights of stairs. But they still choose to stand right next to me in a lift. What can I do to get rid of these stinky people from where I work? Oh and as soon as I walk in or out of the building there they are again puffing away at their fiery contraptions making non smokers feel ill with not a care in the world. And of course the butts end up on the floor because none of them can walk the extra 10m to the bin to dispose of it there.

Just my 2p in response to your complaints. At least you can choose to give up smoking. I cant seem to get rid of the smokers and the no smoking signs seem to have no effect. Maybe it should be a no smokers allowed sign/use deo +/- mouthwash before mixing with people?

Thats it, you've sussed it, a non smoker designed these new fangled tabs so the smokers know how us non smokers feel around smokers.... rather ill. ;D And suprise suprise , they dont like it.
And yes smokers do stink, esp this time of year in the damper weather.

Especially difficult for friends and loved ones. :(

Note to "fiend61":

Never mention smoking, drinking, eating fatty foods, or indeed any other personal consumption habit on here, as the sanctimonious will always crawl out of the walls to miss your basic point entirely.  ;) ;) ;D
whereby a certain other member will throw a strop if someone else is winning his favourite "competition" ...pmsl. ;D

Haven't a clue what you're on about, so no change there, then.  ::) ::)

Back to the topic, I was interested to see if anyone could shed light on fiend's allegations. I pointed out that the usual "give up smoking" is hardly addressing the poster's query.  ???

12 flights about 8 - 12 times a day is a bit excessive isnt it? And I am not a fit and healthy brigade person at all. Just as the OP is unhappy about having a new odd smelling cigarette imposed on him, I was putting forward my side of what gets imposed on me. And I have no choice it seems. When your sense of smell is working, as it is in my case, it is very difficult to tolerate the smell of a smoker. Just as it is difficult to tolerate someone who hasnt showered for days on end. The end result is similar.

Once the do-gooders have have got everyone not smoking, then they can turn their attention to making everyone tea total. Then they will wonder why all pubs have closed, as nobody is allowed to smoke or drink, and act like they don't understand why that would affect pubs.

People should be allowed to do what they want, when they want, as long as the are not affecting others and being ignorant idiots. Those that cannot deal with right and wrong should be eliminated from society, as should those unable to tolerate the tolerant.

I am sorry if you feel insulted, but that wasnt the point. Certainly was not specifically directed at you or your wife or one particular person. Just as the OP feels that he had no say in these things, I feel the same. You will not be able to comprehend the distress the smell causes non smokers unless you have been on the other side. 2 months ago I bought a superbly maintained and looked after Omega estate that had been occasionally smoked in. It had only done 20k in mileage with one owner so certainly had not had any heavy smoke exposure. I bought it, valeted it 3 times (inc biological cleaners), twice myself and once professionally and them had it fogged/smoked in the hope I would be able to live with it. But there was a trace of that smell which was so irritating that I actually got rid of the car at a loss. Difficult to understand unless you are in my shoes.

So I am sorry if I have ofended you and will comment no further on this thread.
