Hi,
I am planning to change the cam cover gaskets on my 2.6 elite this weekend.The maintainence guides are very helpful and easy to follow, however i have a couple of questions that someone more knowledgeable than me may be able to help with.
Do i need to remove the fuel rail and air tubes to do the job,and if so is de-pressurising the fuel system the same as on the 2.5 guide ie. by pressing the valve at the rear left of the fuel rail?

you will need to remove fuel rail,only six torx bolts,but you have to twist it to the right angle to remove and refit,just clean up all surfaces from old sealant etc,and most importantly take your time,it isnt half as bad as it looks,just need to take time on the passenger bank as cables can be moved away to get easier access,will be a good time too change plugs aswell.
it is recommended to use genuine vx cam gaskets aswell,but as i dont use mine much i opted to use after market 1's which are holding up fine so far.

I have already removed most of the bits to do the plugs(the plug wells were swimming in oil) like you i have not bought vx parts as i dont use the car too often and need to get rid in the new year(the wife wins again).

aftermarket camcover gaskets will not last    you will be lucky to get a few months out of them and to be honest the price difference isnt that much to use genuine gm

i only do 2-3000 a year

up to you  but personally i like to a job once  its a right faff taking everything off again when they harden and start leaking again

Its one of my pet hate jobs. So I like to do it once, and just once.  Genuine ones are normally good for about 6-8yrs. Virtually all pattern ones seem to last 2-3 months tops, leading to all the BS about 'warped covers' and other lies to hide incompitence.
