I know I've seen one on my many forays into the engine bay, but for the life of me can't think what it's connected to.

How did you find it on Ebay?

It is a resistor.  It is used when an electrical item (such as a fan) is to be used at more than one speed.  It will come into play when the fan needs a lower than "as fast as it can" speed.

Never seen that on any V6.

Why am I thinking its one of those gay "get 10,000bhp more" coolant sensor resistors?

Looks more like the suppressor capacitor that sits across the supply to the coil pack to me. ::)

your wrong,by fitting that part you will gain 30,000 bhp more and greater mpg plus you will only have to change your oil every 1594 miles and it will fix all the bulbs that are out on the dash :y

Thats what I thought it was. I also thought I read on here a few days/weeks back that it was bolted to the back of one of the cylinder heads? Or was I dreaming? ::)

Suppresor cap as fitted to the rear of the 2-4-6 head on the 2.6 and 3.2

As Mark said, the tab on the suppressor is bolted to the rear of the 2,4,6 head (where the wiring loom ground connection is, IIRC), and the flying lead connects to a connector from the loom close to the 2,4,6 coil pack. It sits across the +12v supply to the coil pack common.

Ok, so in summary it probably isn't a resistor at all, but a suppressor of some kind that is only fitted to DRW V6s? That will be why I don't recall seeing one on my 3.0 then  :y
