Have you taken any measures?

Global meltdown, global warming, global poppycock !!
Yes, I have washed and polished the car
Yes, I have stockpiled food and fuel and withdrawn all cash and got gold coins
No, simply because our banks wouldn't let it happen and make us suffer
Don't know, my butler does all that sort of stuff.

Global financial meltdown,are you ready?
« on: 17 December 2011, 15:06:37 »

Have you made any plans for :- When the Euro can't be saved and banks globally go to the wall owing each other staggering amounts of money next year?

Or do you think it is such an unlikely possibility that it isn't worth worrying about?

What can most people do? I doubt most of us are sitting on piles of cash in savings accounts that we could turn into something more 'stable' (gold, I presume?).. as far as I can tell all I can do is what I'm doing now - carry on working, carry on living and whatever happens, happens. I suspect that's the same for most people my age.

Now, if you're retired and sitting on stacks of cash or investments.. maybe it's different.. but I suspect I'll have croaked long before I ever get to retiring, so it's not something I've given much thought to.

been having a few "heated debates" with a mate of mine about this. his argument is that the venus project is the way ahead, my reply to that is that we would have to go back to the stoneage for that philosophy to work. dont know how to do a link but if your interested enough look up the venus project.

yep.. most here are normal workers that earn day to day , some weekly or monthly.. and if I had that pile of cash now I would drive something different ;D

Perhaps Varche is implying we should all be doing this: http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-2075371/Stocking-Doomsday-As-economists-predict-meltdown-meet-families-ready-worst.html

Though I suspect one commenter is correct; it's all well and good stockpiling food & water ready for some kind of nuclear winter, but unless you're stockpiling guns and ammunition to defend it in the apocalypse you're preparing for, it's rather pointless.. and most of us don't have ready access to guns and ammunition, being largely law abiding citizens.

I've plenty of wood, ground to grow my own stuff, a modest stock pile of essentials and weapons (and the will and expertise to use them) so if anybody wants to dance - bring it on.

Paper money will be useless when the time comes - the will to survive and the ability to be be practical will go a long way instead -  especially as the state will be of zero help.

If armageddon comes I'll be leaving the front door unlocked and hoping the first ones in end it swiftly.

I'm thinking of creating an E-gold account they hold your money in precious metals e.g. gold, silver, platina. It's worth considering.

A laudable goal but one that will struggle as there's one impediment that will always disallow success - the human will.

Sadly, for that utopian ideal to take hold, the population of the globe would have to be lobotomised.

Sadly I think most of the people in power already have been ;D

I'm not so sure about that - I can't even claim to have ever raised a fist to anyone, let alone anything else. Although I had a decent eye with an air rifle. Er, not at people, obviously - just in case my sentence structure left any doubt, there.

But I'm honestly not sure I care enough about (my own) life to try, these days. (I blame the season for my current mood)

It's quite easy to get to a point where one's focus becomes too concentrated, I get it from time to time - I'll remember something from the past or look at a contemporary event only to find that either of these has conspired to condense my attention to the exclusion and detriment of many other things.

It passes of course, but essentially it's a waste of time - not easy to rationalise when in the throes of it sadly but, realistically, you're not alone and next month will herald the beginning of a new year with fresh opportunities to seek out. :-*
