why are caravans white? and not green anyway as they spend all there time in woods and green fields

If they are anything like aircraft made from composite materials it's to reduce the absorption of UV light which will cause the material to degrade.

Large parts now made of GRP, certainly mine has front, rear and roof panels of GRP, sides are still aluminium. :)

My advice is, take someone with you who knows what they are looking for and also someone who will give you an honest answer to buy or walk away ... you do hear of the poor sods who thought every thing looked good but months later found it was rotton to wheels

Paint it with Marine Anti-fouling and then turn it into a boat.  On second thoughts, ditch it and get a boat  ;D

Some of the large statics are indeed green. Like at the lakes, to comply with national trust rules maybe? Doesn't look to clever with a load of white sheds dotted around Cumbria.
But I don't think that's too wise to camouflage a towable caravan. Might give people an excuse to drive straight through the middle of one. Oops sorreeey! ;D

:-\ looks like i have got to wash the caravan again its going green again from all the rain we had >:( does anyone know how to stop it going green  ???

It will always go green and streaky if left for long periods. I have found Fenwicks Caravan Cleaner quite effortless to use. It gets the green and streaks off with the minimum of effort, even if only done once every three months or so.

burn it ;D :y

There was an Anti-Caravan Club started many years ago but it was shut down due to lack of support from the public. So there, na na na na na.   ;D ;D ;) :y
Personally, I think that caravan threads should be password locked so that only caravanners can give their input.  ;) ;D ;D

As already said LOOK FOR DAMP as you would look for rust under an old car. First stop is take the cushions out from the front/bottom end of the van, same at the rear (all four corners). Then check the shower room/toilet & roof vents. On older/cheaper vans a damp repair & evidence of it is ok as long as it is dry, you can't disguise the damp smell. My old Elldis had the whole 3 front windows out, treated & replaced, still dry years later. This is only on the lower end of the market though. I bought said 2 berth van for £200, attended a few OOFMEETS & Classic car meets then sold her for £400 3 years later.

This was my first van & have many happy memories of the time away in her & the midnight stews cooked after the teatime curries & morning brekkies. Really cosy to sleep in, all electrics so you can run your lappy/toaster/kettle/halogen heater/shower etc etc. & you don't have to put it up or pull it down in the rain & wind. You can keep most things packed away all year, crockery/cutlery, tinned soups/beanz/toms, herbs & spices, paper towels , dishcloths, pots/pans, i could go on. Just check the car over hitch up & go wherever you like.

I'm getting another one soon & will spend a bit more. Worth every penny. :y

I understand that, we are facing out first Christmas without FIL :( We have a static, have done tourers, but even swmbo would never think of inviting MIL down to it for the weekend.....  Now my mother would be a different story, she gets on far too well with swmbo.... ::) ::) ::)
