We've the Victorians to thank for that :( They used to have much more wintry January/February than December. They started to put wintry scenes on their cards just after they started to send them. Snowy Suffolk village much prettier than a drizzly picture of a Manchester mill  :-\

They do kind of have a point... :y

Are you old enough to remember loads of snow at Christmas? (last year aside)

Last year was just a slight dusting, its the only year I can remember with even a fraction of snow.
Hmmm, I seem to remember shovelling a foot of snow off the road to make some parking space ::)

Slight dusting in London!
Thats what happens when you choose to live in such places.  We had several snowball fights (top end of close versus bottom end), made snowmen, and some of the kids made a proper igloo in the rugby field.  London, nah, not for me, give me the countryside any time ;)

Thats what I want to, but I cannot afford to upgrade to a house + a commute bill........ yet!

Yeah, it had to happen sooner or later....

The Chiltern Slug must be the world's slowest train.  Last time I used it, it was actually on time, scheduled to take 30m to do 10 miles (with 1 intermediate stop (which was a quick)), and it took 30m. I make that an average of 20mph...

You win ;) It's about 30 miles, I reckon, and takes about an hour to get from Martins Heron to London Waterloo.. It's just so tedious, and in rush hour standing room only.

I was spoilt living in Slough before - 25 minutes to Paddington on the fast train. Then again I can walk to the station here rather than drive in Slough; swings & roundabouts, I suppose.

While I was waiting for her to buy her jimjams from that posh nightware place going up the Gary Glitter in Banbury, I was looking in the Estate Agent's window...

...3 bed end terrace, useful sized garden, £139,950 :o

It was shockingly bad - the only place to buy the ticket is on arrival (neither Bicester or the hellhole stop on the way even had a permit to travel ticket machine!), so every sod is then queuing on the platform to buy a ticket from a poor sod who surrounded as soon as the train arrived

It wasn't in Banbury - they were (slightly) more expensive.  It was that backend of nowhere, Woodford Halse ;D

London's like the milky way, though. It's in the centre and everywhere is getting further away. Must be. When I moved to Alton in 1997ish it was 48 minutes to get to Waterloo. Now it's 1h30. :o

Either that or the slam-door trains were actually faster than the Siemens cr@p they have now. :D
