I have grown to like the omega over the past three years, it rides well, now pulls the caravan fairly well and is not bad on fuel for a big lump, BUT it has been an expensive experience, Apart from service and tyres wich are wear and tear (including an exhaust) it has had, mass air flow sensor, lambda sensor, camshaft sensor, new cam belt, new brake discs and pads new rear springs and shocks, I had spring assistors fitted as well to help with towing, new battery and problems with the power sounder. It is now missing on one cyclinder on start up, this clears after a while but I wonder if the coil pack is getting ready to die. It goes in for service next wednesday so fingers crossed it may only be a plug.
But i still do like the car, it has just turned 84K, which is not a lot on a 03 car, as I am an old git I do not want to spend more money on another car at present, and I do believe in better the devil you know.(or think you do)

84k is pretty young for an Omega so a few niggles aside, I would be surprised if it gives you major grief. I'd have a look in the plug wells to  see if they have filled up with oil or water causing the misfire.

Timely oil, coolant, ATF and cam belt changes and keeping on top of a couple of other jobs like keeping the breathers clear will see an Omega go on to 200k without too many issues.

I disagree. 84k isn't high miles IMO. Not on the omega anyway. Age is another matter.

You don't say which engine though...? Probably oil or water in plug wells.

As its had a failed cam sensor and is 2003 model, I guess its a 2.2.

You are well in the realms of coil pack failing, esp if you have a leaky windscreen seal. Bet its cylinder 4

Omegas can be expensive to run if you have to use garages.  Where are you based (worth updating your profile with location and car), somebody nearby may be able to do all fixing cheaper than garages, and then its up to you where you get it serviced

I live in south lincs, and yes it is a 2.2, the garage I use has been very good and has always been more than helpfull, they have done many a small job at no charge so I do not have a problem with them.
The days when I could pull a car apart have now passed I am sorry to say, I used to enjoy working on cars, but to many ailments these days, I am more worn out than the omega.
Still enjoy the caravan and a bit of fishing so can't complain to much, and I enjoy this forum very helpfull and does not have to many bad mouthers, some of the caravan forums are bad, you are afraid to put a post on them for the response you may get. I have been driving for 52 years and caravaning for about 35, so I do have a little experience in both.

Indeed, they are all miserable gits because they spend their nights in a tiny plastic box in a field, and after dealing with all road rage on the way, they are not very happy!

Don't get me wrong, i'm not a huge fan of caravans, but having three children to take on holiday several times a year and a very quiet site two minutes walk from a sandy beach that few people know about, which costs far less to keep the caravan on from easter right through to october half term than you would pay for 5 nights holiday for the five of us I know which option I choose!

Can't say i've ever experienced any road rage when towing, but to be fair we usually tow in the evening when the traffic is light and we can stay at the legal towing speed limit for the vast majority of the journey.

Each to their own, no need to slate people who have different viewpoints and ideas to yourselves.
