Back to basics. Last service? Was it actually serviced (not all garages are honest ;)).

In particular, I'd look at air filter condition and plug condition.

This time of year, it will use a bit more, very noticible if you do a lot of short journeys.

The car hasn't had a good service for a long time. Its mainly used for small journeys as my wife's elite estate is sat up ill.
Will check on the basics this weekend then get it properly serviced.
Hopefully that will increase the mpg.

Oil change and Air filter to start with. then change the oil again after 500 miles if it hasnt been changed for years. So long as your brakes arnt binding ect id start there. Cheap to do also :)

Agree with all above.  Also, since it's free and easy to check, it the temperature getting up to mid-scale (90ish)?

The engine is the 2.6
Had a stainless system fitted with a 3" out and that is black inside from excessive fuel
Don't know the mpg - scared to find out.
I used to have a 3litre elite which on a run was getting 35+ but even with good sensible driving this can't reach that.

if you were averaging 25mpg id say that was average but 35mpg is quite something. Does it feel down on power?

A V6 is never going to get 30+mpg when knocking about town .........  ;)

35mpg on a decent run is perfectly achievable from a 3.0l.  Don't think DBW will achieve that.  Obviously, around town, that plummets like a stone, or if you hoof it...

Yes this has a trip computer but never actually took any notice till now especially since the wife has started using MY CAR...
I should be getting slightly better than the norm as i have has both middle boxes replaced for a single box. it increases power but when taken steady also increases mpg.

Mine is over serviced and best i can get is 30mpg which i have averaged for a while now due to mainly long journeys.
