Chipping my Miggy
« on: 30 December 2011, 14:51:47 »

Hi All.
I have a 2.2 diesel miggy on a manual. I tow a caravan. I have heard about chipping but I am not quiet sure what it is, would it benefit me in towing power to have my car chipped?? also would it help to save on any fuel, plus does it have any other benefits or would I just be wasting my cash. Happy New Year to All.
Cheers

A couple of people on here have had there 2.2DTi's remapped with good results. Ideally you need to get them decatted first (no legal requirement for a diesel of this age to have a cat, vehicle only has a smog test at MOT time) and then have them remapped rather than just a standard upgrade chip fitting.

Combination of the decat and mapping should see improved MPG, better responsiveness across the rev range and pulling away from a standstill (which I think is the worst part of an 1.7 tonne Omega 2.2 DTi combination!).

If you PM Pete ( http://www.omegaowners.com/forum/index.php?action=profile;u=2259 ) he will be able to advise you further.

I'm here ;D

Had mine re-mapped, also a de-cat. Remove the first silencer & weld some pipe in it's place. These engines respond well to freeing up their exhaust.
As an experiment I removed the rear standard silencer for a while & that makes a noticeable difference. Not overly loud, because of the turbo, you can also hear the dump valve too ;D :y
I just run the rear silencer on mine & it's NOT loud at all :y
You could replace the rear silencer with a after market one that's straight through for a raspy note & better performance.
