Fuel Injectors, Advice please.
« on: 04 January 2012, 17:18:22 »

Hi All.
First of all a Happy New Year to everybody. Now onto my problem, I have had to have th AA out to my car, she is an X reg (2000) 2.2 Diesel miggy, Manual. she seemed to have a fuel starvation problem, the AA guy who was very helpful, told me the seals were probably leaking in the injectors and they would need rebuilding, I have phoned a garage in Scarborough who told me it would be an expensive job because they would have to remove the Cam,  I have a fair knowledge of mechanics, but have never worked on a miggy, can anybody please tell me if this is an easy job, also is it as cheap to have the injectors rebuilt or would it be just as well to put new injectors in, also has anybody any idea how much injectors cost per one.
Cheers.

Before you even touch anything get a code reader on it and report any codes back here.

I highly doubt that advice ;) ;) May be the spill (or leak off) pipes leaking though.

As said... Check the codes first :y

If an injector fails then it tends to be one or two, not all four at once (plus there not known to cause issues).

The fact you have a power limit hints towards something else (hence the AA guy may have seemed helpful but was comunicating something based on little or no evidence).

As always with these, check all the vac pipes are ok and intact and that all the service items e.g. filters are goon

Hi All.
Thanks for all the replies, I have fitted some new fuel pipe that I found was leaking from a jubilee clip, she now seems to be running fine,  I have got 136000 miles on the clock, I regularly (twice or three times a year) put a good diesel imjector cleaner through her, aspecially if i am going away pulling the caravan, I average about 5000 miles per year, would she be in need of new injectors at this milage, or has she still got goood miles left in her original injectors, at MOT the guy said he had never seen such low emissions on an X reg car, and she doesnt smoke.
Cheers.

I ahev regularly seen these engines do 400K miles without any injector issues.

The key thing is changing the fuel filter regularly and draining any water from it.
