OOF Rocks
« on: 04 January 2012, 22:07:12 »

The check oil message came up tonight. Its OK, there is a small leak from the camshafts, so I just fill up until I get time to get them fixed, however I was faced with this

Oh B****Y H**L whats this ?. I start into panic mode, head gasket, oil cooler or what.  :'( :'( :'(

However a search for mayonaise (;D ) reveals its to do with the cold weather and the filler being in the cold airstream etc.  Phew I can breath again, no emergency cooler changes next weekend  :y.

OOF is such a marvelous resource for info on the Omega, what are we going to do after we have changed cars ?. I doubt there are any similar sites with such a wealth of information like OOF.  I'll bet a very large proportion of similar cars, audi's, BM's, Merc's will have been scrapped due to service costs, and we'll be left with little boxes with a  4 year life.

Long live OOF.  :y

Do yourself a favour Ken... Take the neck off, fit the filler cap directly to the cam cover, clean the neck and throw it in the boot ;) :y

Maybe you ought to give it a blast to have a 'site visit' north of Bridgend, pal! ;)

I'm doing 120 miles per day, each day, annual mileage around 36,000 if that isn't enough......................

However, Bridgend, hmm is a curry and beer involved ?  :y

That ought to keep it mayo free without a doubt, IMHO, so I would check the breathers are clear and keep an eye on the state of the coolant in case the oil cooler is failing.

Clean out that filler neck, and do breathers (they'll be same).

What oil?

I renewed the stat a few weeks ago. Temp used to be very slow to  rise, but since doing it the temp comes up to 85 and stops there, hardly moving.

I haven't managed to clean the breathers, when I took the manifold off to fit the nozzles, I couldn't figure out how to get to the breather box at the rear of the engine, so left it for better weather.
