You know you are getting old when....
« on: 05 January 2012, 11:52:50 »

.... its a challenge to get in and out of a Lotus Exige without doing your back in.

Got one as a trade in at the moment and I had to move it.  Not built for big lads, are they...   ;D

There is a very comical picture of me in the pax side of a friends VXR220 (same car, different shell, essentially) - me at ~24st and him at ~16st. 1st & 2nd gear was very 'intimate'.

Although the drivers side of the same car (I got to drive it a few years later after it had been made significantly faster) is surprisingly roomy. Still not easy to get in & out over the enormous sills though - I could only do it with the roof off  :-[

being 6ft5, I struggle with most little sports cars. Usually end up driving with my knees  ;D

Quite a lot of leg room in the VXR actually - length wise.. I certainly have to shuffle the seat forward a fair way, and I'm 5' 10" so not that short! I suspect it feels so roomy because of the somewhat sparse interior finishings, though ;D

Most of my height is leg too, the Corsa C i leaned in had no adjustable steering column, I'd actually say it was border line dangerous me driving that!

I helped build a Caterham Super7 once, and was given a drive. No chance, as my legs jammed the wheel. Shame. as it was a hot little motor, had the 1340cc Cosworth Classic engine.

No(t many) problems getting into SWMBO's Smart Roadster, definitely OK once you're in. I know another lad that owns a Roadster & would love to be able to buy an Exige/Elise but can't get his 6' 3" /23st arse over the sill  ;D

Pfft, he's not trying hard enough.. or had the roof on  ;D ;D ;D

I was probably 26st when I drove Mark's.. 28st 8lb now, good job he's sold it for a 911 (not that I've managed to steal the keys to that, yet..)

I can't even get near to getting into a 7-esque car .. unless I put the seat on the transmission tunnel and made it a single seater  ;D

In the very early 70's I got seriously stuck in a Lotus Europa - despite the bloke who was with me advising me not to try getting into it.

Without exaggeration, it took several people and a fair bit of bollocking about to get me out of it without breaking any bits from the car (or me) and before the onset of cramp.

What a fuppin' car - it must have been designed for those of modest stature.

You should have seen me trying out the various Cobra replicas.. it was comical at times! Especially the more 'original' cars with the big wooden steering wheels; I just didn't fit at all.

Well, I did, but steering would have been a problem.

Finally, the real reason Tunnie drives so slow is out!  ;D
