My drivers seat heating failed a week or two ago which I did consider a "round tuit" job. Now the Eberspächer heater (marked Opel 09146031) has started dripping coolant on to the road!

I have noticed that it does not leak when engine and cabin are warm and air con on, only appears to leak when cabin heat demanded from coolish engine. I suspect this corresponds to when the thing is actually heating.

A quick look has shown it not to be leaking from hoses, although difficult to pin point exactly, coolant is coming from the main body of the heater.

Anyone taken one apart? Spares I presume are available to rebuild?

Eber heater looks to be quite a nasty thing. Mine is not working, asked Eberspaecher for a check, they said to go to Opel Service to read error codes (Eber people saying that they are not able to do the readings with their gear), Opel Service said they are no able to read heater codes - no communication, so back to square one .

It is worth to check anyway the three way valve - on the coolant circuit, quite often it is leaking and coolant may flow on hoses to the main heater body.

Thanks  to all who have replied. I hope to have a chat to an Eberspatcher expert in the next few days. Apparently these, or similar Eberspatcher Hydronic heaters, are fitted to BT transits and this is the guy who fixes them locally.

The thought of joining the two hoses together occurred to me, but I was slightly concerned that may not be sufficient to prevent other problems. Did you disconnect the electrical connector?

I am aware that it is possible to interrogate the heater function using Tech2 and although I have access to one, I have not tried as I considered that water loss is unlikely to be electrically detectable.

There is no leakage from the hoses. I unbolted the thing from the car recently and tried to fire it up. Unfortunately with the heater hanging out of the car, the coolant was too warm for it to operate.

Disconnected and removed when I purchased it. No side effects from what I can tell.

Thanks for that VXL V6,  I will probably disconnect in the short term.

Have also found the manual  on line and discovered that it is quite a clever  bit of equipment with its own ECU, variable speed fan, diesel pump, flame failure detection etc.

Good news is that a replacement heat exchanger is less than £50 inc vat. Unbelievably theer is even a video on U tube covering dis assembly and re assembly  This is focused on a slightly higher heat output heater than the 2.2dti fitted D3W type, but the construction looks to be quite similar.
