Will it fit, Td manual on a mv6 auto??
« on: 09 January 2012, 20:22:33 »

Ok... 3.0 mv6 auto. I have a manual gearbox sitting in my old td. So I have the gearbox and the pedals... What else do I need?

I have been told I'll need a different bellhousing and that's it, but can't be that easy surely?

Will it bolt together ok or do I need to track down a manual PETROL gearbox?

just swap the bell housing you also might need the ECU from a manual petrol car.
You take the bellhousing off the auto box and fit it to the manual box :y

On it thanks for the how to thread link  :y

So the donor car is sufficient then, not much more than 'wax on wax off'

Easy... Just need my auto to break so I have the justification for a weekend of swearing...

So are the gearboxes all the same between petrol and desiel? (ie, a five speed manual is a five speed manual with the same ratios regardless of engine) Does the different ratios come purely from the diff ratio? Bit clueless here lol!
Don't want to end up with a top speed of 300 mph and 1st gear capable of 75 if you get my meaning?? Looking at the guide, Do I also need to obtain a petrol rear diff of correct ratio or will one I already have be right?

You will need a spigot bearing in the end of the crank to support the gearbox input shaft, also a flywheel for the V6, pedal assembly and hydraulics, interior trim and the wiring will need modifying for reverse lights and starter inhibitor.

Ratios are here:

http://www.omegaowners.com/forum/index.php?topic=90453.0

Manual with a V6 auto diff will give quite a bit shorter ratios. Probably want to think about changing the diff too, IMHO.

Not sure if the 2.5TD gearbox ratios were the same as the V6. :-\

D'uh, flywheel, forgot that lol!  :y

That as well obviously... also didn't think about the hydraulics...

Oh heck, wiring for the lights too... Hmmm a learning curve for me!

I'd be just as well to find a breaker/scrappie then??

Could use some bits off the td but not a lot lol will have to compile a few bits then...

If the diesel is a 6-cylinder, then the gearbox WILL NOT fit your MV6.

If the diesel is a 4-cylinder then it will.

All Omega manual gearboxes are Getrag 240s, but they have integral bellhousings, which are not possible to swap from gearbox to gearbox ( well not easily anyway )

There are two bellhousing patterns - one for the BMW diesel and one for everything else Omega B

From your TD, you can use......

clutch pedal box and pedal
clutch master cylinder
clutch pipework
gear lever and surround, including the metal plate riveted to the bodyshell

From your TD, you can't use

gearbox
propshaft
flywheel

wiring is a simple change - and much removal

you'll need to source

propshaft
flywheel and clutch
diff if you need one

Ok gotcha, cheers...

Hmmm so I'll need most of the heavy bits off another car then. I'll adress the matter when it's more of a priority  :y

Trust the BMW bits to be awkward, lol!

Just a query here, what box is the manual then.... is it the same as the old Carlton straight six R25/28 or just R28, both these were hydraulic with only the R25 being cable.

All Omega A or Omega B gearboxes are Getrag 240s

R25 vs. R28 appears to be only shot-peened gears for the higher capacity.

Including Omega A ( i.e. Carlton ), there are three bellhousing patterns......

Pattern A - The old "cam-in-head" engine, so that's all of the straight six petrol engines, plus the chain-driven cam 4-cylinders (either petrol or diesel) - 1.8, 1.9, 2.0, 2.2 and 2.3 and 2.4

Pattern B - the "family 2" engines, so that's 1.8, 2.0 and 2.2 petrol 4-cylinder, all of the V6s, plus the 2.2 diesel

Pattern C - The BMW six-cylinder diesel.

on the clutch actuation front.......

there are again three actuation methods.

Cable. Fitted to all Omega A and Senator B apart from 24V cars

Hydraulic. external cylinder fitted to Omega A and Senator B 24V cars

Hydraulic concentric cylinder fitted to all Omega B
