So do you change the "inbuilt" rubber seal on this type of nut when doing oil change - i've never bothered

The O ring is separate from the sump plug, if it's OK, you can re-use the old one if you want, but for the cost of a new one is it worth using the old seal?  ;) ;)

You mean the rubber ring that sits on the inside lip of the sump plug?

They must've been OK, or you'd have a leaky sump plug.  ;) ;)

Sorry for confusion lads...

The sump plug comes off, take off old plastic ring off and replace and refit? Or are we saying there's another washer/ring to change too?  :y

Yes no problems to date - spread over 2 omegas - approx. 9 on the old one and 3 on the new one. (It wasn't the same plug over both cars). When you tighten the plug it seals the sump long before the o ring starts to touch the bottom of the sump pan so i suppose it is only acting as a double safety measure anyway.

The thread might start to tighten, but the sump is only oil tight when the rubber O rings makes a seal between the plug & the sump.  :y :y
