A few weeks back, I noticed that if I left the sunroof open in tilt position whilst at work and ignition had been off, the sunroof wouldn't close to the closed position.  If I rotated the knob back to close, it'll attempt to close about halfway closed, then go to the fully open tilt position again.

It'll close fully if I press and hold the knob in the closed position, but once ignition had been off again it'd stay open again, the same sequence of pressing and holding would close it again.  If I want sunroof fully open its fine and goes back to closed position, just the tilt that started playing up.

Anyway, I've removed the ECU this evening to clean the disk, and put it back as I found it. I reset everything again, to find the tilt worked OK, but the fully retracted position throws a wobbler halfway now, again I reset it and it'll be fine for a few attempts.  I then left it open and closed the roof on the key, this then upset the tilt position again, and having reset it again worked fine.  I went back out again earlier to check it again, only to find the fully retract is half closing and stopping now.  This has happened since I cleaned the disk.  It hasn't fully fixed it like I hoped it would, and how the 'how to' describes.

By cleaning the disk whats this meant to do, what part does the disk play, I read about a magnet being placed on the disk on one post, and to try cleaning the chip thats on the board.

Any suggestions please?

I thought of buying a second hand ECU to replace mine, as maybe its started to malfunction and work intermitantly.

Have you tried the proper reset procedure in the manual?

Will check the manual.

But have fully opened the roof and pressed the button in whilst roof goes back to close, same for tilt, open and close whilst hold button in, done it loads of times in the past.  So assuming Im doing it right.

What does the disk do and how does it help by cleaning?

Thought it might be a optical eye to count rotations of the disk?

Anyhow doesn't seem to have worked, it now gets confused half closed now if sunroof is fully back.

Disc is partially magnetised and rotates over one of the components on the PCB which enables the memory settings.

Holding the knob in is not the calibration procedure, just a get-me-home.  There is a sequence to go through involving the closed position and both extremes.  Some trial-and-error may be involved.  i.e. calibrate and see if it's OK, otherwise re-calibrate.  I found that the exact position of the knob for "closed" was critical and had to be chosen in the light of experience.
