Flush with the excitement of new fangled films being in letterbox format on our old but serviceable cathode ray TV, I decided that my desktop PC monitor needed replacing. Still worked but I was having trouble reading Emails on it. Bought it 15 years ago but just before it was two years old it failed. AOC replaced it free of charge. So this one has lasted 13 years.
At the Spanish Computer Emporium there was a vast array of monitors. All flat LCD. Couldn't find any CRT! Maybe they don't make them anymore.
Settled on a 21 inch VGA offering from LG - 99 euros. The clues were there. It is about twice as long as it is high. 1920 by 1080 max resolution. Few tweaks inckluding latest software download on my Nvidia GeForce 5400 128M video card and it was working.
Now the not so good. Max resolution from my PCI graphics card appears to be 1280x 1024. Picture is nice enough but everything is elongated. There is a screen option to 2/2 the picture. That in effect puts it all into a nearly square box in the middle of the screen. Photos look better but what was the point of paying for the not used two inches of screen down the left and the right.
I hope in another 13 years that the replacement screens have improved
