Petrol going out of fashion?
« on: 26 January 2012, 22:13:17 »

Even BMW's ///M division are now doing diesels  :o The 5 series, X5 and X6 are all getting a 3.0 Triple turbo diesel producing wait for it.... 381 BHP & 546 lb/ft of torque, the 5 Series will also get 4WD and do 0-60 in 4.7 seconds. That's as quick as the 2005 M5 with a 5.0 V10 and 507 bhp was! Best bit being 44.8 MPG  :D

<Lazytinker rubs hands with glee> ;D

If I had to own a diesel, it would probably be a Beemer. So that, clearly, is not going to happen any time soon ;D .... Although double the range does sound appealing I must say.

I'm not surprised by this to be honest. The bmw diesels have so much torque. My E92 330d M Coupe is noticably quicker mid range than my previous 330i and I can get 50mpg out of it without trying too hard. At work we have pitched e92 335d coupe's against e92 M3's on a rolling start and the 335d will match it to just over a ton. Both limited to 155mph. Looking at the book speeds makes you wonder why anyone would want a petrol beemer. Awesome engines.  :y

When I had my 530d it always staggered me how much torque it produced. It would pull like a train in any gear :y When my beloved Omega goes to the scrap yard in the sky or the BMW(petrol) is stolen, they will be replaced by a BMW diesel. I used to acheive 30mpg around the doors and about 44mpg on a long and very quick run ;D ;D

remeber when bmw first brought out the 3.0 diesel 5 series i had one on order but they kept changing the delivey date ended up loosing my patients and opting for the petrol as bmw just could not confirm a delivery date basically said you wil get when you get it :o :o........the demo i drove was bloody quick..some time later managed to get a 730D for a 3 day test drive could not belive how quick and economical it was for such a large car.......its where i would put my money if i could afford them again....mates got a 330d m sport thats really quick

glad to see they are bringing over some models only available in europe :y :y out of my reach but nice to see
