Right i know the V6 suffers from a bit of condensation building up in the oil filler neck and and thats why you get a bit of mayo white gunk on the filler cap only really if you do short trips. My one only does short trips like the school run but after just 3 or 4 of these trips mine is thick with the stuff the neck the cap it like slightly warmed up butter if you know what i mean. Heres the thing the car runs lovely i dont loose any water and the oil on dip stick is lovely and clean heater blows nice and hot temp is good im lost.Its a 03 3.2 manual ex plod 150.000 miles

There`s your problem, nothing to cause concern, are you using GM oil

Some oil varieties do this worse than others. 
Vauxhalls own is normally one of the best for avoiding mayo, but they all do it a bit with your journey types.

Make sure the breathers are kept clean to avoid any problems, you can remove the filler 'neck' and put the cap straight onto the cam covers if you want, only putting it back for oil changes / topups.

  How easy is it to remove the Oil filler neck to help avoid the Mayo build up (especially if alot of short journeys are regularly taken) ? Is there a guide? Is it difficult (access and any bolts, clips etc) ?

its a bayonet twist action, just like the yellow cap.
has a lug that locates over a bolt, have to clear that
nothing more to it than that.

Bayonet twist action ?? Is that like a bayonet Light bulb treplacement ?..i.e push down first and then twist and view whether the lug is clear of the ' bolt' and then pull tube upwards ??  Hope this makes sense?

Would have thought it better to have the "mayo" collecting in the neck of the tube than removing it allowing said mayo to circulate around the engine, mixed with the oil.

Even with the neck removed the oil STILL doesn't sit that high so mayo will still appear within the crank case. Least with the long neck in place it tends to rise to the highest point
AND you know where the soddin' stuff is !

Mayo is the result of oil emulsifying with water condensate. Water only condenses in the oil pipe where it's a little cooler so if it's not there you won't get condensate & therefore no mayo/emulsion  :y 'Mayo' isn't something that lives in the oil/sump and gets trapped in th extension pipe.  ;)

This sounds like an easy fix to cure the MAYO , have the ones that have removed the filler neck cured the problem  :-\

The mayo only forms because the neck sits in colder air than the rest engine allowing condensation/water to form. When water mixes with oil you get mayo.

As TB often says, the mayo is a good indication of the state of the breather system, as the breathers also sit in cooler air than the crank case. The mayo itself does no harm at all. So one could argue that it's best to leave the neck in place purely to gauge the state of the breather system.

Either way, mayo in the filler neck is not a real concern, The neck only exists on v engines in rear wheel drive applications, to aid filling. It's not needed on front wheel drives as the filler holes is easy to reach.
