Caliper Paint
« on: 24 March 2008, 08:02:56 »

Hi All, I'm thinking of painting the brake calipers on my Elite. Has anyone else done this and if so what system did you use? 2 part or straight 1?. Those of you with better colour sense than me I'm also wondering what colour to go for. My motor is black with standard colour alloys. I don't think red would look right somehow so I'm undecided between silver, gold, or just black.

I like the stock look and have painted mine silver . I use Smoothrite paint , the non hammered equivelant of Hammerite.I painted mine four years ago when I got it and touch them up about once a year. The paint stands up well to the conditions and doesn't dull off as long as you clean the dust off regularily .
Clean off rust and debris with a wire brush taking care not to damage the wear sensor wires. Get two or even three good coats on to them and thats it. :y

You really want "smoothrite", same stuff and from the same manufacturer, but with a smooth finish. It comes in many colours; Silver, black (which is good for sun-roof surround problems) and, yes, in red. :y

I found that they will charge for the caliper paint, as mentioned, Hammerite is just as good and a lot more cheaper.you can also get various colours in Hammerite now. :y :y :y
