Would the parents knowledge stop them having sex? Nope.
Would the parents stop them having the implant and then end up early grandparents? Probably.
Do I think it should be compulsory? Hell yes.

Anything to stop or delay the next generation of miscreants.

Will the offer of such an implant promote sexual activity among those who otherwise would probably have waited until later in life? Probably.

Will it encourage unprotected sex and the proliferation of STDs? Probably.

Not saying it's a good or bad thing, TBH, but it's certainly not the quick fix that will mend our broken society.

Tricky from a medical point of view.

Medical In Confidence (Caldicott principles) means that if the girls dont want their parents to know then you cannot divulge the information.

The problem will then come that if they then become sexually active and dont use protection STDs will become the main risk.  Ironically some STDs will make them sterile for life.

Maybe the answer is to give them without their knowledge? ;D

We have a few machines that will do that although it is beleived the effect is temporary (a few years rather than life)

;D I laugh .. although it's a short hop, really, isn't it! Granted it's the thin end of a very large wedge..

Good counterpoints to my slightly antagonistic reply, btw ;)

Unless I am mistaken, parental responsibility continues until the age of 16. Ergo, parents must be informed. >:(

The state cannot and must not assume the role of the parent without due process. Hiding behind this Medical in Confidence bit is simply wrong, IMHO.

We found out our daughter had been active from the age of 14.
Apparently she had simply walked into the local 'connexions' centre and was given the contraceptive pill and as many condoms as she could carry - all without our knowledge. Connexions maintain that they are NOT permitted to inform parents of children like ours.

Needless to say we were not impressed at being so effortlessly bypassed.

Of course the whole time she was swearing black was blue that she intended to wait until was at least 16 and that her boyfriend would never ask her to do otherwise.

It seems to me that the system is encouraging kids to start way too young, in the guise of 'protecting' them.

When I was an apprentice, we were warned about the effects of radar and other high power RF sources. Not sure how it will affect women but it makes men Jaffas.  :o :o :o :o

Exactly  :y

Kids will be kids but its about time a line in the sand was drawn.

We only get one childhood and imo, kids are driven by the media and peer pressure to grow up too quickly.   When you have shops selling pushup bra's and thongs for a girl who is not even in her teen then in my mind, this country is stuffed  :(

It makes me laugh when I think of this.
When your a kid, all you want to do is be a adult.

When your a adult, all you want to do is go back and be a kid again  :)

As a parent although all grown up in body and left home ( boys ) i think at the very least parents should be advised. If i was in the situation i would discuss the matter with my daughter and let her decide. In  todays society, girls especially have the freedom and pressure to grow up so quick. Without the need for the parents knowledge or final concent is just leading them to belive that they are adults before they have actually grown into one.

Now some boys sould take a compulsory jaffa pill until they grow up  ;D ;D

yep.. its wrong..

Actually  I think its a consequence , rather than being the cause..  so wont solve the main problem even if parents are informed..
(comes to the conclusion where Kevin and Aaron pointed out)

whole media is pumping and selling sex everyday.. human body is a meta and communities are very far from giving an aim for life.. Besides parents alone cant control the children every minute at every location..

so at this young age , a young brain cant handle this much hormones without proper help.  but I dont think , birth control methods alone can solve problems.. :-\

here in eastern parts families find an easy way.. get them married early, which is also another disaster solution..

after the children parents have to look babies where even they cant look themselves.. so what happen, all parents, grand parents and their chidlrens and their childrens childrens live together because of economic problems and creates more mess.. :(

and many hungry stomachs to feed..  let alone giving them houses or jobs >:(

It is a very emotive subject. Sadly at the age of 10 a child has the right to refuse any medical procedure he/she does not want to have, even lf life threatening. I know this because my 11 year old son refused to have a minor op he needed.

It does appear puberty is arriving earlier these days, and perhaps a one size fits all policy/law needs to be changed. Any changes though would never suit everybody. Hence you return back to where you started.

Perhaps doing away with any laws where health/sex/age are concerned would be slightly better. After all it does seem that more laws we make the more criminals we create. What was acceptable yesterday is illegal today.
