It's nearly 11pm and their lines close soon, so I don't fancy sitting in a big hold queue just yet.. and their documentation has left me none the wiser, so, since I think a few of you have these policies?

I have 13yrs NCB on the MR2 and 2yrs NCB (in April) on the Omega - the MR2 being up for renewal on the 17th. I know from experience last year that the insurance on the Omega was eye watering, so although Adrian Flux have managed to quote me £285 on the MR2, I'm tempted by Admiral as they're showing ~£300 on the MR2 and £400 on the Omega (£300 less than it was last year!).

What I'm wondering is .. a year down the line when both cars are up for renewal, do I have 14yrs on the MR2 and 3yrs on the Omega, or 14yrs on both?

All their policy documentation assumes you'll have Driver A with Car A and Driver B with Car B, not Driver A with Cars A & B and different NCB on both..

I thought you could of used your 14 years NCB from the MR2 for the omega? when you originally insured it. I think youll find it's down as you having 14 years NCB and the 3yrs is irrelevant really.  I could be wrong, these insurers do like to make things complicated!

Did you also know if you haven't been insured for 2 years (i think) you lose all your NCB?  That's crap as i found out!

Nope because the NCB can only exist on one policy at a time (which is idiotic since surely it's me they're insuring regardless!) - when I insured the Omega originally Flux gave me an 'introductory discount' equivalent to mirroring 'part' of the NCB from the other policy, but at the end of the year I still only had 1yrs NCB showing on that policy.

When you fill out the Admiral forms they specifically ask what NCB is on each cars renewal document - I just don't know if at the end of the year they amalgamate them to be the same as the highest number IYSWIM, or keep them separate..

they are after who is the main driver on each car for risk assessment purposes and of course annual mileage. On mine Omega is £185 (4000 miles pa) and Phaeton £300 (10000 miles pa)  with me as main driver. Signum is £350 with Mrs as main driver but has 3 other drivers and does more miles - 15000 I think.

I understand your problem, was looking at a second car scenario and had to get quotes with no NCB, I think if we have full NCB on one car then it should be for all............some insurance companies will give a discount but need to speak with companies, can't do that sort of negotiation on the compare sites.....

Indeed - originally Flux uttered the words "we'll mirror your NCB" when I first took out the second insurance policy. Sadly, foolish me assumed that meant it would read "13 years" at renewal time last year. But no, what they meant was they'd mirror the discount my NCB applied, but not the NCB itself .. if you see what I mean.

[edit] If I had more cars I'd go with TradeX, but for two cars it's not worth it.. and when I do finally have three, one of them will be a kit car that I'll want agreed value on

I found Tradex uncompetitive, even for 3 cars

Not such a worry now as running a full trade policy covering all vehicles and both of us plus another driver... Cost me about £1700 though Unfortunately there is only one underwriter willing to insure the van due to what it carries

They were pretty good for me when I asked for a quote on the MR2 (heavily modified at the time), Omega and 300ZX - £1250 IIRC, which was about what I paid for the MR2 and Omega alone last year.

This year with the mods off the MR2 and no 300ZX they'd be uncompetitive, unless I added a third car.. Hm.. no.. must resist.

Got to admit, really miss the Omega at the moment

Still have thoughts about selling it occasionally but can't bring myself to part with it as all it costs me is tax And of course fuel when I finally get to drive it

I felt that way about the Nissan for the longest time.. however.. it sold tonight for £899, assuming the buyer doesn't mess me around.

TBH, I wouldn't even consider letting it go for less than £4500 which, as we all know, is strong money for any Omega, even a LPG'd 3.2 with all the options and low mileage And I'd still be taking a loss, although not too big
