general van chat
« on: 13 February 2012, 05:56:40 »

Thinking of changing my van currently run a fiat ducato with the 2.3 120ps engine had no issues with it but mind you only done about 11k miles in 3 years

may keep to same model but mechanically which is best  fiat, citroen or poeguet

but same dilemar with the new movano quite fancy one of them but mechanical is it better in vauxhall, renault master or now nissan.....love the look of these vans and had loads of movanos in past. Renault at the moment give 4 years warrenty plus sat nav a/c etc but is this becuase its not as mechanically sound as the vauxhall?

current van hit list is

fiat ducato 2.3 130ps lwb/hr or equiv citroen/pug
renault master 125ps lwb/hr or equiv vaux/ nissan
renault traffic 115ps lwb/hr or equv vaux/ nissan

transit, sprinter, crafter nice option but too much wonga for what is basically a box on wheels

any advice as always greatly appreciated :y

Trafic/Vivaro & Primastars are plagued by gearbox problems, I know the previous Movanos werent exactly the most reliable vehicles either.

Not realy any great vans out there at the moment to be honest, they all have issues.

Not seen gearbox issues on the Renault/Vx Vans but the engines dont last well (probably due to the stupid servicing).

The Transits are no better

The Mercs just fall apart.

Your probably better off keeping what you have!

I'd be inclined to agree with Mark. Unless there is a real reason to change, why bother? :-\

Exactly ....... that's why we're hanging on to this gem:

Had it for the last 7 years, and undoubtedly the best van that we've ever owned.
Does everything that's asked of it - including my 60-mile daily commute! :y

i currently drive an 09 plate vivaro, done 85,000 miles from new,im the only driver as i wont let any1 get there hands on it,im currently on the 3rd set of tyres,2nd set of front and rear pads, and 1st set of front discs, and so far has never let me down, usally flies through the 6 weekly pmi check, but at the moment its in the bodyshop, not my fault,so i am now driving a 10plate lwb renault master van, drives ok but sluggish in 6th gear need to change upto 5th a few times while on the motorway, has tomtom sat nav which is operated by remote control, built in dvd player and bluetooth, which also does music streaming.Tbh it has more poke than the vivaro but christ does it like diesel as it is doing 25mpg and thats driving it easy.

thanks for the replys few reasons for changing

!) lucky if i get 20mpg and thats sensible driving

2) van out of warrenty

3) all expense tax deductable vat reclaimable etc

4) value of current van low miles etc poss have about 3K maybe 4K equity in it once all paid and sold etc which i want for poss caravan purchase amoungst other things

i was leaning towards the traffic/vivaro only becuase of the fuel economy not to bothered about owning so may lease something as miles per year are low :y

The Trafic's and Vivaro's (Primastars too), are really excellent vans, but they do suffer with gearbox problems, a friend of mine had covered 143,000 miles in his 57 plate van and he's done three gearboxes. They're weak, but the vans really are excellent, and if you get one with warranty there won't be an issue  :y :y.

paul we have a fleet of 10 vivaro's and tbh all that is done to them is regular servicing....oldest is a 59 reg and it as done 100,000 and apart from brakes/pads/disks and a clutch no prob's at all and in fairness to the van it is not treated/driven as well as it could be ...there was a time though that the nissan version was better equipt (parking sensors, bluetooth aircon sat nav)and cheaper to buy so worth a check??
