Abandoned Miggy,Should I take it..?
« on: 15 February 2012, 19:33:49 »

Bit of a conundrum here, the recovery driver who took me over to pick up my calibra mentioned an abandoned Omega outside his lock up, been there for 4 years at least and no one in neighbouring units knows who's it is and it has never been touched in that time.Had a mooch at it today and it's a champagne V reg 2.5 td that appears not to have been taxed since 2007 and is very mossy and dirty.  I was hoping for a silver mig as I want some doors but it would still yield some useful parts both for myself and fellow oofers plus the shell is worth a few quid scrap.

Either I take it or the pikeys will.

Would you have it away?

let the pikeys have it, technically it is stealing, it may have been dropped off by a different recovery agent expecting it to be moved on by the company you used? maybe it is just abandoned if its locked up and no ignition damage then it wasnt abandone?. if its unlocked and looks like a shitter you have to ask yourself is it really worth gaining a criminal record for?

It's definately not worth just taking it and getting your collar felt, but I wonder if there is any way of making a claim to it legally...  :-\

After 4 years I would have thought the council would have removed it, and if it has been there for 4 years why would the 'Travelers' suddenly want to take it now?

If you can find a way to legally claim it, EG contact the reg keeper and offer to take it off their hands - then crack on - if not, be careful, 'cause technically you'd be stealing the car, regardless of how long it's been there / state it's in....

use the reg number to do a dlva check! its probably abandoned owing to duff auto box, leaking cam covers, knackered crank sensor, cambelt overdue, shagged wishbones, steering idler and track rods, broken rear springs, furbar central locking, sunrooof with a mind of its own - and he couldnt afford to put petrol in  it anyway.

Sounds familiar. :y ;D ;D
