Aux belt too tight

Got a aux belt from Vauxhall Car Parts (Topran 6pk2020), but it's just slightly too tight to get on. Anyone else had this problem? Anyone heard of Topran belts - Is it just a cheap, crappy make and I should invest in a decent one?

Don't want to really force it on as it's a new tensioner so don't want to knacker that with a crap belt that's too short!

You fitting the smooth water pump pulley on last?  :-\ :-\ Even a new GM belt struggles if you try fitting it over the tensioner last.  ;)

Yep. Given up for the day now. Will have another go on Saturday. The old one went back on fine, but that is probably slightly stretched to help.

The new one just seemed too tight.

There seemed to be problems with pattern belts here a while back that were too short. A new OE belt using Trade Club was 'only' £20ish +vat the last time I bought one.

If you were closer you could've tried it against your belt - it's sat in my boot as a spare.  ;)

are you sure its a belt for air con?

Yes, 2020 for air con - unless anyone can correct me?

It's so close, I just need another 5-10mm. But I don't want to force it as it'll be too tight and cause further damage to pulley bearings, tensioner etc.

Seriously, 2020 sounds about right. As above, are you fitting the water pump pulley last?  :-\

Yep, water pump last. Routings all correct. Belts correct length (according to it's labelling at least).

I'll give it another go on Saturday and see how I get on - new day, fresh eyes and all that! If I still can't get it on, I'll assume it's one of the dodgy pattern ones and chuck it in the bin.

Just check to see that the belt is seated on the pullys, i had the same prob till i realised that the belt wasn't on the air con pully properly. I know it seems a bit basic but it's difficult to see down there.
