private plates
« on: 20 February 2012, 22:40:32 »

never seen the attraction of private plates until i bought a car with the plate included.

plate valued at £ 500, car bought for £600.

seems like one of those industries where current trends , maybe have an influence on the price.

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Carling-Cup-2012-Liverpool-Final-Suarez-Wembley-Tickets-/260961233671?pt=UK_Cherished_Numbers&hash=item3cc2806b07

interesting to see what oof members have on their cars.

The Mig has B3MSF, my initials and valued at £600, about £595 more than the car is worth..... :(
The Jeep came with BEZ4767 valued at £350.
When I say valued at, that is the price offered to buy the numbers from a plate trading company.

I have to do some juggling soon, when I get the Megan log book as I intend to put B3MSF on the Jeep and BEZ4767 on the Megane..........how the heck we will do this sort of thing when they close the local dvla offices I do not know, currently all I have to do is take all the documents and tax discs and fill out the forms, how can we send tax discs in the post, to Swansea, when they should be on the car.............I have found our local dvla office very helpful over the years.... :y :y :y

We have 3 cherished plates in our family. Allthough I now drive a car without one. The price he is asking for that LFC plate is a joke, it is not worth more than 5-600 pounds at best. Around here there are a number of SFC (Southampton Football Club) plates and they come up for sale quite a bit. Last one I saw was on a Nissan Primera, car and plate sold for £600.

Just make contact with the companies selling plates. They used to offer you a price to buy outright off you, and a commision based sale for them to sell it on your behalf. Sadly they will offer you a lot less than they sell them for obviously.

I would suggest looking at similar plates to what you have and look at the price they are asking. Then price yours around that price.

At the end of the day it is worth only what someone is willing to pay for it. None of my dateless plates (pre 1963) have cost me more than £95 to buy the car they where attached to.

First plate attched to mk3 Cortina, cost £150, £80 transfer fee, sold car for £200.
Second one attached to Morris Minor, car cost £95 transfer £80 car sold for scrap, scrap price eleudes me at the moment.
Third plate attached to Hillman Minx, car cost £395 transfer fee £80 car sold for £400.

Now here's a thing. Why is it that Irish plates that are bog standard over there, suddenly aquire 'Private' status on the mainland. Never understood that.....
Now dateless plates, pre 63, yes. All well and good but JIL or JXL or whatever  ???

No offence to those that have them and delight in them but I just don't and have never 'got it'

I had an email from regtransfers.co.uk today (because I got a valuation on a plate, I imagine) offering me 'AB 55' for a mere £42,500 ..

Naturally I bought it on the spot. ;D
